Chapter 49: Either try or die fighting!
"Thats–thats..." Lei Yan pointed at the army of the mutated rats that were rushing out of the potholes and alleys. Even the mutated rat that was attacked by her brother was completely fine as if a countless number of bullets were not aimed at it just now.
The giant rat shook its head and charged at their car once again.
Lei Qian controlled the mounted turret again before doing a U-turn and taking another route, as the one that he was driving through was now blocked by giant rats.
"Fuck, what’s going on, brother? How can there be such big rats?" Lei Yan asked while trembling in fear.
"Lei Yan, this is not the time to wonder about such things!" Lei Qian spoke through gritted teeth and said to his sister, "Look around and find an opening."
As he spoke, he looked at the rearview mirror and was terrified out of his wits when he saw that the giant rats were still chasing their car. Now he understood why there were so many checkpoints before anyone could enter this city.@@@@
Lei Yan immediately looked out of the window and started searching for a way to escape from these rats. She finally saw a path that had only one or two rats and pointed at that path.
"There, brother, drive through that path."
Lei Qian looked in the direction where Lei Yan was pointing and immediately turned the wheel towards the western side of the city. Compared to the army of mutated rats, he was willing to take on two rats.
As Lei Qian approached the clear road, he shot wildly without paying attention to what and where he was shooting.
However, it was as if the skin of these monstrous rats was made of iron; no matter how many bullets he wasted, the rats were not affected at all. The bullets simply bounced off their fur or got stuck in it.
He drove past the rats that were standing in his path; however, like the rest of the rats, these two monster rats also started to chase after them.
Smiling sheepishly, Bai Meiyue sat down on the chair beside her eldest nephew, Bai Qian Han.
She looked at the spicy short ribs that were placed in front of him and then looked at the boiled spinach with herbs that was sitting right next to the bowl that had ribs.
However, Bai Qian Han was only eating the boiled spinach but he didn’t touch the short ribs at all.
Seeing this, Bai Meiyue frowned and picked up a couple of ribs and placed them on top of the rice bowl.
"Why are you only eating vegetables and no meat? If you don’t eat properly, then how will you grow as tall as your father?" Bai Meiyue remarked.
Her words and actions left Bai Qian Han stunned. He raised his head and looked at Bai Meiyue before getting down from the chair and kneeling right in front of her.
"Auntie, please don’t send us away. I promise that I will be good and won’t do anything to make you angry again."
As he spoke, he pulled his brother Bai Jiuque to kneel with him as well.
When Bai Meiyue saw her nephews kneeling in front of her, she immediately jumped off the chair and helped the two boys up.
"What’s the matter with you? Why are you kneeling in front of me?" Bai Meiyue questioned. Her face was covered in confusion as she turned to look at her mother, who was just as surprised at the actions of her grandsons.
Even she had no idea why Bai Qian Han and Bai Ji Xue suddenly bowed in front of her daughter!
