Apocalyptic Disasters: Carrying a bun and hoarding supplies

Chapter 80: Terrorized children

Chapter 80: Terrorized children

The water level remained the same for the next three days. It didn’t show any signs of going down till the fourth day and by the time the water level lowered enough for them to step out, Bai Meiyue was sure that a week had already passed.

Thanks to the precautions that she took, the room did not get entirely flooded but it did leak enough to cause some minor troubles. Fortunately, all electronic equipment was in her space pocket or else it would have been a really big loss!

Bai Meiyue heaved a sigh of relief. Though this time around, the water level was much higher and didn’t go down for a long time, at least she was able to avoid losing anything precious.

She walked over to the pods in which her two nephews were hiding and opened them one by one.

"Han’er, Que’er," she softly called the terrified children. "Are you okay?"

Bai Meiyue was very much aware of the fact that children were the ones who suffered the most in the post-apocalyptic world. They were sold off by their parents in exchange for supplies and there were some who were used as supplies.

In the dog-eat-dog world, no one was willing to care for children, which left many of them scarred and hurt. She didn’t want the same to happen to Bai Qian Han and Bai Jiuque; thus, she was really careful with them.

Bai Qian Han, as the eldest, was still fine but Bai Jiuque was scared silly; he had once fallen in the pond of their village. Or more like it would be right to say that he was pushed by his uncle. His uncle told him that he was a burden and using up the resources that belonged to him before pushing him in the pond. Thus, the sight of a tsunami covering the entire city reminded him of that incident.

"Que’er, are you okay?" Mother Bai stepped forward and took Bai Jiuque from Bai Meiyue; she hugged the child and then looked at him with a concerned look on her face. "Did the sight scare you? I told you if you cannot look at it, then you should look away. This thing was so big, you could have moved easily."

However, he still gave her the respect that a wife deserved, as he did not wish to follow the path of his father, who abandoned his wife at the drop of the hat. He thought that even if Fang Qing was a bit selfish and scheming, there was no tiger who would eat its own cub.

He sure underestimated the ruthlessness of that woman!

A murderous gleam flashed in Bai Meiyue’s eyes; it seemed like she was still a bit too kind to Fang Qing. If she had known that there was such grievance between that woman and her nephews, she would have beaten Fang Qing even harder!

However, this was not the time to bring up such matters. She turned to look at the Lei family and stated, "You should take Mister Lei back to the apartment; now that the tide has gone down, we need to clean up the house and see if there is anything that can be used. The things that are of no use should be thrown."

"Ah, you are right, sister Bai." Lei Yan nodded as she bowed her head and said gratefully, "Thank you for helping our family out; if not for you, I am afraid that we would be in trouble."

As for how these pods came here, Lei Yan didn’t ask. Bai Meiyue had helped their family by saving their lives. As the saying goes, the biggest grace was a life-saving grace. Since Bai Meiyue had helped their family, naturally Lei Yan would not do anything to make things awkward between them.

She took her family and left.

Once the Lei family was gone, everyone turned to look at the mess on the floor.

Though the water had more or less dried up, it had left behind a really fishy scent, which made Bai Meiyue gag. Her stomach churned and she felt like throwing up, but seeing the condition of her house, she could only stop herself from running to the restroom. Because this scent—it had already permeated itself in the walls and the floor!
