Chapter 123 Growth of Some Kind
Chapter 123 Growth of Some Kind
Outside Room G-7, Overwatch HeadquartersBrigid pressed her ear harder against the door as her messy black hair spilled over her shoulders.
A deep scowl marred her young face.
『Damn it—how could Lord Nightwatch betray me like this? It's obvious a wild threesome went down in this room. Ugh, I wonder what it smells like? If the air purifier isn't on, I could probably use the scent to finish my… morning routine.』
She patted her crotch as though she was telling the burning hole between her legs to relax.
『Seriously, Lord Nightwatch didn't even think to let me know. I could've stayed by his door and touched myself to the incredible sounds of my glorious king absolutely ruining those women in bed. Oh fuuuuuck~ ❤️…』
Brigid held out her fish and gnashed her teeth, wishing so badly it was her.
"Damn it, I can't hear a thing…"
That was all she could mutter.
"Same here."
Rhinoman groaned as his large frame towered over her while he leaned against the wall.
His brows twitched in frustration.
"What's even the point of us standing here like idiots?"
Both of them turned to Gadget Girl, who was crouched on the floor as her junky contraption whirred and blinked with mismatched LEDs. Wires dangled from the side, and the antenna twitched like it was alive.
"Well?"
Rhinoman grunted.
"Any luck with that hunk of junk?"
Gadget Girl adjusted her oversized goggles and fiddled with a knob.
"Hold your horses, big guy. I can hear something. It's not much, though… just some… giggling? But no real words yet. Maybe I need to—"
"Try harder!"
Brigid hissed as her green eyes narrowed.
"What's the point of you being the tech whiz if you can't even eavesdrop properly?"
Just as Gadget Girl was about to retort, a familiar voice cut through the tension with ease.
"Well, well… up early today, aren't we?"
The trio stiffened, then snapped their heads toward the source of the voice.
Nadia stood a few steps away with her arms folded tightly under her breasts as her sharp eyes scanned them with an expression that could curdle milk.
The sternness in her gaze made Gadget Girl nervous to the point she dropped her device.
"Anything I should be worried about?"
Nadia's tone was razor-sharp, each word like a dagger ready to strike.
Rhinoman instinctively backed up until he pressed himself against the wall.
"Uh, n-, nope! Nothing to see here, ma'am!"
He stammered as his usually deep voice cracked under pressure.
Gadget Girl scrambled to pick up her device, then waved her hands frantically.
"Uhh, Miss Nadia, it's not what you're thinking! We were just… uh…"
Her voice dwindled, leaving her lips flapping uselessly.
Nadia's gaze shifted to Rhinoman, who immediately broke into a sweat.
His shirt collar suddenly felt too tight.
"It's not what you're thinking! I was just worried the boss hadn't come out in hours, so I—uh—"
He faltered, looking desperately at Brigid for help.
Brigid blinked, looking as if she'd just realized she was part of the group. She gasped dramatically, clutching her chest as though she couldn't believe her predicament.
"Me? Oh no, no, no, I wasn't doing anything! I just thought Lord Nightwatch might need something to eat after, y'know… plowing two women that weren't me all friggin' yesterday!"
Rhinoman and Gadget Girl stared at her in horror.
Brigid continued without missing a second.
"But rest assured, I'm not so petty that I'd sneak poison into their food to kill those fat-chested bimbos and have Lord Nightwatch all to myself."
She flashed Nadia a dazzling grin.
Nadia's eyes narrowed suspiciously.
"You were joking about that last part, right?"
Brigid nodded so quickly it was a miracle her head didn't pop off.
"Ahahah, of course I was joking! It's not like I have cyanide in my back pocket, just waiting for the perfect opportunity to use it or anything—"
The moment the words left her mouth, Gadget Girl, Rhinoman, and Nadia all lunged at her simultaneously.
"Hold her down!" Rhinoman bellowed.
"Check her pockets!" Gadget Girl squeaked.
Brigid squirmed under their grasp, laughing uncontrollably as their hands
The fire crackled, indifferent to her pain, as the others continued to gossip.

Rooftop, Metro City
Dark Elf crunched loudly on her chips.
She approached the edge of the rooftop.
There, a man stood. It was Grave.
She stopped halfway, lazily licking the salt off her fingers as she arched a brow.
"So… what did you come here for, huh? Got another existential crisis to dump on me?"
Grave turned to face her.
"When were you going to tell me that Nightwatch's secret identity is Scott Evelyn McQueen?"
Dark Elf blinked, mildly surprised.
But the effort to show it wasn't worth the energy.
She shrugged, popping another chip into her mouth.
"Well, it's not like you asked…"
She came off very nonchalantly.
"What, you expect me to go all 'report to the boss' just because I found out the guy whose ass I kicked is some suburban golden boy? Sounds stupid."
She yawned.
"And stressful. I don't care enough."
Grave's eyes narrowed.
"I've known for a while now, but I didn't say anything because…"
Dark Elf yawned very slothfully.
"Because he's screwing the brains out of your sister, right? Makes sense. Oh, and maybe next time, don't try to sound edgy with a name like Grave when it's already your last name, genius. It's just sooo cheesy."
Grave tilted his head.
"Says the woman calling herself Dark Elf."
"Fair point…"
She muttered, rolling her neck until a satisfying crack broke the tension. She leaned against the edge of the rooftop, staring at him.
"So, now that you've always known his identity, what's the big plan? Gonna write him a love letter?"
Grave's expression darkened.
"Ruin him…"
He said simply.
"The Hero Agency hired me to take him down, and they're paying a fortune. Want in?"
Dark Elf fell silent.
For a full minute, she stared at him, crunching her chips.
Finally, she swallowed and said, "Nah. Hard pass."
Grave sighed. "I thought so."
In a flash, he pulled out a handgun and fired.
But Dark Elf's reflexes were quicker.
She spun as her belt snapped off her waist and hardened into a sleek shortsword.
… SHIIIIIIIIIING!
With a single fluid motion, she sliced the bullet in half.
By the time she turned back, Grave was gone.
She yawned as she brushed crumbs off her hands.
"Ugh. I hate unnecessary drama."
