Chapter 277 Trip to the Ministry of Magic
Chapter 277 Trip to the Ministry of Magic
"Saens Autumn, come to apply for the Apparition license."
"Thank you," the hollow female voice sounded again, "Guest, please take the badge and pin it on the front of your clothes."
With a ding, something fell out of the metal outlet of the public telephone that was usually used to return coins. Sainz reached out and took it out. It was a silver-white badge, the size of an ordinary coin, square, with "Sainz Autumn, Exam" written on it.
He picked up the badge and pinned it on his chest, and the female voice sounded again.
"Guest of the Ministry of Magic, you will need to be checked and have your wand registered at the security desk, which is at the end of the main hall."
After the female voice finished speaking, the floor of the phone booth began to descend like an elevator. The streets around the phone booth began to rise in Sainz's sight, and then the top of his head sank into the ground. As the phone booth fell into darkness, Sainz lit the magic wand.
There was a constant harsh and monotonous friction sound coming from all around, giving people the feeling that an elevator that had not been used for decades was suddenly started up and was running with difficulty, as if all the parts were rusted and it was just iron rubbing against iron.
After about a minute, the telephone booth's car was approaching the Ministry of Magic building. The friction sounds around it disappeared and a faint light shone in. A thin golden light shone on the soles of his feet, then quickly widened. There was a bright light outside and the door of the telephone booth opened.
The disembodied female voice spoke again, "The Ministry hopes you have a good day."
Sainz walked out and stood at one end of a magnificent hall. The dark wooden floor under his feet was polished to a shine, and the peacock blue ceiling above his head was inlaid with glittering golden symbols.
Those golden symbols were constantly moving and changing, like a huge display screen.
The surrounding walls are all inlaid with shiny black wooden panels, and there is a row of fireplaces on the walls on both sides.
Sainz walked slowly to the other end of the hall.
Wizards appeared from the fireplace on the left from time to time, and a few people entered the fireplaces on the right, which should be used to leave magic.
There were not many people coming and going in the Ministry of Magic today, and Sainz suddenly realized that today was Sunday, and something was wrong.
When he came to the center of the main hall, he saw the famous statue - the Fountain of the Magic Brothers.
In the center of the circular pool stood a golden statue larger than a real person. As to whether it was made of pure gold, Sai didn't care. Standing in the middle were two wizards, one of whom was taller, holding his wand high and pointing to the sky.
Surrounding these two people were four "people", a beautiful witch, a centaur, a goblin and a house-elf. All of them looked up at the two wizards in the middle in admiration.
Hey, a statue that perfectly embodies the values of the Ministry of Magic!
Streams of water spurted from wizards' wands, centaurs' arrows, goblins' hats, and elves' ears.
The pool is like a wishing pond in a scenic spot. At the bottom you can see a lot of coins thrown into it. A stained sign reads:
All proceeds from the Magical Brotherhood Fountain go to St Mungo’s Hospital for Magical Injuries.
It is unknown whether the actual situation is really as written above.
Sainz glanced at the coins in the pool. A small amount of silver Sickles were mixed with a large amount of copper Knuts, but there was not a single gold Galleon.
It seems that everyone is not stupid.
He continued walking inside and saw a golden door at the end of the main hall.
There was a table on the left side in front of the gate, and behind the table sat a middle-aged wizard with an untidy beard, but his robe was very neat, the same peacock blue color as the ceiling above his head.
Next to the wizard stood a tall sign that read "SECURITY CHECK".
When Sainz approached, the wizard put down the newspaper in his hand lifelessly and said listlessly: "Security check, come this way."
He walked to the table, and the wizard took out a long, straight metal rod like a pointer, swept it up and down around him, then threw the metal rod down and held out his hand, "Wand."
Sainz handed him the wand in his hand, and the wizard placed the wand on a machine that looked like a brass scale, except that it only had a tray and looked a bit like a tall electronic scale.
After the wand was placed on the tray of the machine, it began to vibrate slightly, and soon a narrow strip of paper came out from a small hole at the bottom.
"Twelve inches, applewood, unicorn hair core, and used for over five years. Is that correct?"
"Correct."
The other party asked in a dead voice, and Sainz answered without any fluctuation.
The wizard held the note in one hand and handed the wand back with the other, "I'll keep this one, and you take this one back."
Sainz took the wand and nodded without saying anything.
As he turned to go, the wizard drawled, "Well-kept wand, by the way!"
There is actually some anger in this sentence, and it is no longer a formulaic response.
"Thank you, your robe is beautiful!"
"Thank you! What are you doing here?"
"I'm looking for the Department of Magical Transportation."
"It's on the sixth floor, just two floors up."
"Thanks, bye!"
"goodbye!"
Continue walking inside, through the wide golden gate, and come to a slightly smaller hall. There are many elevators similar to elevators here, at least twenty or more, all blocked by golden fence gates.
There weren't many people here today, so Sainz randomly picked an empty car and went in.
It was the same female voice from the phone booth. "Seventh floor, Department of Magical Games and Sports, including the British and Irish Quidditch League headquarters, the official Gobstones Club, and the Funny Products Patent Office."
The gate of the elevator opened and a young wizard came in.
After the door closed, the elevator continued to move upwards. "Sixth floor, Department of Magical Transportation, including the Floo Network Administration, Broomstick Management and Control Bureau, Apparition Testing Center and Portkey Office."
The gate opened and Sainz came out, walking on a corridor. Bright sunlight shone in through the windows on the corridor, and it was impossible to tell that he was underground.
When Harry first came to the Ministry of Magic, he was there for trial. Mr. Weasley accompanied him and asked, "Aren't we underground?"
Mr. Weasley told him that the windows were enchanted, and that the weather was determined by the Magical Maintenance Department, and that once they had a hurricane (typhoon) for two months in a row because the weather guys wanted a pay raise.
Walking along the corridor, I found my destination at a branch of the corridor. The brass sign on the door read "Apparition Testing Center".
The door was not closed. After entering, it was very large. Seeing Sainz coming in, a young wizard stood up and asked, "Hello, how can I help you?"
"Hello, I want to get my Apparition license!"
The young wizard bowed politely and said, "I'm sorry to have made you come here for nothing, but today is Sunday and the Apparition test is not held on weekends."
Not surprisingly, Sainz knew this was likely to happen. "So when is the best time?"
"Any normal workday will do, sir."
"Where's the time?"
"Between nine in the morning and five in the afternoon."
"Okay, I got it. I'll come back tomorrow."
"We are deeply sorry for the inconvenience caused to you and wish you a happy life!"
"Thanks, bye!"
