Chapter 1992 Farewell
Chapter 1992 Farewell
The next day, Chen Changli and Wan Shufang got up early, packed their bags and prepared to leave. After saying goodbye to Caixia and her husband, they also embarked on a new journey.
Guiyun Town was gradually left behind by the carriage. Only when it was completely out of sight did Wan Shufang lower the curtain and sigh softly, still feeling a little reluctant.
"I really feel a little reluctant to leave them. I haven't even seen Caixia's child yet."
Seeing the disappointment on her face, Chen Changli smiled helplessly, took her into his arms, and comforted her softly: "You will see later. I told Mo Zhu that I will write to let you know as soon as the baby is born."
"As long as you want to come to Guiyun Town, we can come anytime."
"Then you can't lie to me."
The carriage sped along, the sound of the wheels covering up the two people's chatting and laughing. When it was getting slightly dark, the group arrived at a remote teahouse.
Several people stopped the carriage and prepared to sit down to catch their breath. Seeing that it was getting late, the waiter of the teahouse said to them with a serious face: "Dear guests, it is getting late now. You should go back early and find an inn to stay."
When the waiter said this, his expression was obviously horrified, and he even subconsciously lowered his voice.
"There is a mass grave not far from here. I heard it is not clean. Recently, I have heard the sound of babies crying at night. It is very weird."
As he spoke, he seemed to feel a chill and rubbed his arms vigorously: "Anyway, it's important for you to find a place to live."
Hearing this, Wan Shufang couldn't help laughing. She didn't believe in ghosts and gods. She wanted to tease the waiter out of boredom, so she pretended to be surprised and asked, "Are you serious? Is the mass grave haunted?"
The waiter looked embarrassed and scratched the back of his head: "I don't know either. Anyway, someone said so."
After saying this, he saw another guest coming over there, so he hurried over. Looking at his hunched back, Wan Shufang smiled and looked at Chen Changli: "Are you afraid, Duke?"
"The idea of ghosts and gods has always been man-made." Chen Changli responded calmly, took a sip of tea, and frowned: "This tea doesn't taste good."
"It seems that there is no tea aroma."
The two chatted casually, quickly finished their tea, and set off again on their journey. They didn't go far, but just found an abandoned hunter's hut nearby to stay temporarily.
As for the waiter's reminder about the haunted shop, Chen Changli and Wan Shufang didn't take it seriously.
But late at night, she suddenly heard a shrill baby cry, which came from far away and then near. Wan Shufang suddenly woke up, opened her eyes and sat up.
Following her movements, Chen Changli was also awakened: "Shufang, what's wrong?"
"Hush, Chen Changli, listen."
The surroundings fell silent. The two held their breath and concentrated, and finally they heard the crying sound again. Wan Shufang walked to the window and opened it to check.
In the moonlight, faint green flames could be seen floating in the distance. She looked in that direction and recalled that it was the mass grave that the waiter had mentioned.
"Is there really a ghost?" Wan Shufang murmured. The next second, her hand was grasped by a big hand. A man's steady voice came from above her head: "Don't be afraid, Shufang. I'm here. We'll go and see what's going on tomorrow."
"it is good."
Wan Shufang nodded, and the two of them did not stay in front of the window for long. They turned around and went back to the house. The baby cried all night, and the two of them did not sleep all night either.
At dawn the next day, Chen Changli and Wan Shufang led the secret guards to the mass grave. As soon as they arrived, all they saw were graves. The overwhelming feeling of heaviness made them feel suffocated.
Wan Shufang frowned and searched carefully, but there was nothing suspicious here except the grave. Just when she suspected that she had come to the wrong place, she stepped on a very soft piece of soil.
"Master, there is nothing here except graves."
Wan Shufang ignored An Yi's voice and squatted down to check the soil under her feet. Seeing her like this, Chen Changli also squatted down and asked, "Shufang, did you find anything?"
"Changli, look at the soil here, it's not right." She pointed at the soil and said calmly, "It didn't rain last night. The soil in a mass grave shouldn't be so soft, and the color is wrong too."
"Normal soil should be like that over there. The soil in the entire mass grave is that color, but only this part is different."
Hearing this, Chen Changli also discovered the problem. He called An Yi, drew his sword, and used the blade to dig up the soil. Soon a large stone appeared.
What’s even more surprising is that this big stone is hollow, and underneath it, there is actually a swaddling cloth hidden!
"It's a swaddling cloth, Chen Changli, this might be the baby from yesterday!"
Wan Shufang screamed and quickly reached out to pick up the child, but the moment her eyes met the child's face, she was frightened and almost threw the child out.
"This... why is this child painted like this?" Wan Shufang said stutteringly and handed the child to Chen Changli. The child was painted with a ghost face and looked bloody and scary.
If it weren't for the warm touch of the child's skin in her arms, Wan Shufang would have suspected that it was a ghost baby.
"This child looks like he is less than one year old. Who on earth would paint a baby like this and throw it into a mass grave?"
Wan Shufang was full of doubts. She carefully looked at the child's bones to make sure she was not mistaken. The child was indeed less than one year old.
At this moment, the child in her arms suddenly urinated on her hand, catching Wan Shufang off guard and she had no choice but to endure the urination.
"Shufang!"
Seeing Wan Shufang's hands covered in urine, Chen Changli frowned and looked at the child unkindly: "Give me the child, we will take him back first."
"Okay." Wan Shufang nodded and was about to hand the child to Chen Changli when suddenly, a figure rushed over and snatched the child from Wan Shufang's hands.
The incident happened suddenly. Chen Changli pulled Wan Shufang behind him, drew his sword and pointed it at the intruder. Looking at the disheveled, blood-stained, crazy woman in front of him, his face became increasingly ugly.
"Who are you and why are you trying to steal a child?"
The woman did not answer him, but just kept shaking the child in her arms and mumbling something, but it was unclear what she was saying.
Chen Changli and Wan Shufang looked at each other and could only move closer cautiously. Finally, they could hear clearly what the woman was saying.
"Don't hug him. You can't hug him."
Hearing this, both of them showed doubt in their eyes. The strange child and the strange woman made them realize that this matter was not simple.
The air around them seemed to become eerie. Wan Shufang swallowed her saliva, calmed herself down, and then dared to ask, "Auntie, do you know why this child is here? Who painted him like this?"
As soon as she finished speaking, the woman suddenly went crazy, baring her teeth and yelling at the two of them.
"Get out, all of you, get out now."
"Don't meddle in other people's business, otherwise, you will be haunted by evil spirits, evil spirits."
