Chapter 627 National Pokémon Peak Tournament (2)
Chapter 627 National Pokémon Peak Tournament (2)
Wang Qiyi was taken aback by Elder Li's words. He hadn't thought that far ahead. Securing sponsorship for a competition was indeed troublesome. He had chosen his own company because it was the easiest to talk to and had enough money, so he hadn't consulted anyone before granting exclusive sponsorship. He hadn't expected to be accused of hogging the money. As a veteran, legendary chief elder of the nation, Elder Li didn't need to consult Wang Qiyi on such matters. A newcomer like Wang Qiyi didn't have that much real power; he could have made the decision himself.
Wang Qiyi was unaware of his current status. In the world of elves, a person's social standing was closely related to their elf strength. Elves existed above the rules of human civilization, especially those at the Guardian level and above; there were no laws or regulations to restrain them. For example, the Explosive Mosquito that ravaged Shanghai back then—if no one could subdue it, it would truly be lawless.
God-level Pokémon go without saying; their very existence is the rule. The establishment of the modern world order relied on the God-level Pokémon—Ho-Oh—who sided with humanity. Mewtwo, from the Pokémon Cult, is also God-level, and its power forced the International League to compromise and negotiate with it.
Now that Wang Qiyi has a god-level spirit by his side, his status has become extraordinary, and Elder Li has no choice but to treat him with great respect.
"Elder Li, there's no need to ask me about such a trivial matter. Since you think it's wrong for Huiguang Technology to monopolize the profits, then let other companies sponsor it as well."
"Don't pass the buck to me. I don't want to deal with these business matters. This person is looking for you. Since I can get through to you, I'll just have him contact you directly." Elder Li hung up the phone after saying that.
A short while later, Wang Qiyi's phone rang. However, the caller ID showed that it was Wen Xinyi, whom he hadn't seen in a long time. He answered, "Hello, Senior Wen, what's up?"
"Chess..." Wen Xinyi seemed to hesitate, as if she wanted to say something but then stopped herself.
"Senior, if there's anything you're embarrassed to say, just tell me."
"Hey, it's Wang Wenbing who wanted to find you, but ended up coming to me. The Wang family's Wansheng Group wanted to sponsor this year's National Peak Tournament, but the tournament has already been exclusively sponsored by our Huiguang Technology. The Wang family tried to contact Elder Li, but Elder Li said it's up to you. Wang Wenbing wanted to do something for his family, so he came to me for help. He helped me during the Shanghai 'Bursting Muscle Mosquito' incident, so I owe him a favor."
"Hey, it's just a small matter, Senior Wen, you can make the decision for me."
"Me! How can I make decisions for you? This is the National Peak Tournament, a competition with such a huge audience and so many intertwined interests. I'm afraid my humble status is not enough to handle it."
"Aren't you my assistant? I'm now the eleventh elder of the Dragon Kingdom, my status speaks for itself. I'll entrust all the business matters for this tournament to you. If the Wang family wants sponsorship, just ask for some advertising space. Our Radiant Technology's product influence is already so great that we don't need any advertising. I'll also inform Elder Li that everything is in your hands from now on. I'm busy training with the elves; the World Cup Guardian Battle in October is a very important task."
Wen Xinyi felt helpless. She was now an important person in charge of Huiguang Technology's Shanghai branch, and her work was usually very busy. At only 22 years old, she had become a senior executive of a Fortune 100 company, and in such an important city as Shanghai. She usually worked under tremendous pressure, with many capable people watching her, and a lot of people who were not convinced by her young age.
However, everyone could only outwardly submit but inwardly resent it, not daring to voice their dissent. After all, there were rumors that Wen Xinyi was Wang Qiyi's ex-girlfriend, and that she could secure her position in the company through this connection. Wen Xinyi was a very competitive person; she only wanted to earn people's respect through her own abilities, not through her relationship with Wang Qiyi.
However, she has to admit that everything she has now is built on her relationship with Wang Qiyi. So when Wang Qiyi gives her a work assignment, she naturally prioritizes it.
"Alright, I'll have my subordinates divide up the work in the company, and I'll help you with yours."
"That's right, you're my best assistant. Remember, if you need to contact me, you're contacting me on my behalf." Wang Qiyi said and hung up the phone. He explained the matter to Elder Li and then disappeared again.
Wang Qiyi needed to go into seclusion to train because his Pokémon were growing too fast, to the point that even he, as their trainer, was finding it difficult to keep track of their levels. Therefore, he needed to spend some time in seclusion to familiarize himself with their skills and tactics, and also to allow them to become familiar with their own power.
The twelve Pokémon are divided into five tiers based on their listed strength:
The top tier is undoubtedly Hoopa, a god-level Pokémon. However, based on his intuition, Hoopa's strength is inferior to Mewtwo, and it might not be a match for Mewtwo in a one-on-one fight. Although the Dark-type Hoopa is super effective against the Psychic-type Mewtwo, don't forget that Mewtwo trained by the Pokémon Center can transform into a Dark-type. Furthermore, Mewtwo is very proficient in Fighting-type moves, which also give it an advantage over Hoopa.
The second tier consists of the guardian-level dark horses: Calyrex, Pikachu, and Guzzlord, along with the overpowered Podocarpus. Podocarpus's strength is unfathomable; it possesses the god-level equipment, the Hourglass. If it were to fight seriously, even Hoopa would have to be wary. As for the other three guardians, Pikachu, equipped with its signature Electric Ball, can fight Calyrex to a standstill, and Guzzlord can fight Pikachu to a draw—neither can defeat the other. However, Guzzlord fears Calyrex's Absorbing Kiss.
The third tier consists of Little Red, Softie, and Dracula, who are at the high-level of the Legendary tier. Thanks to obtaining the Blue Orb and Dragonite's scales, Little Red and Dracula's levels have increased rapidly, surpassing Goku and Jerry, who were the first to reach the Legendary tier. When Hoopa was unsealed, they were bathed in the psychic power of 20 Unown, further enhancing their strength. Now, they are just one step away from reaching the peak of the Legendary tier. Softie's Mewtwo form is a Psychic-type, so the Unown's boost to it is the greatest, instantly surpassing Goku and Jerry as well.
The fourth tier consists of mid-tier legendary Goku and Jerry. They lack Mega Evolution, hence their placement in the fourth tier. However, Goku possesses a Demon God form, allowing him to unleash powerful attacks against opponents of higher levels, and Jerry's signature Z-Move is not to be underestimated.
The fifth tier only includes Venusaur, Gamabunta, and Exeggcute. While Exeggcute is top-tier compared to other Pokémon, it seems too ordinary compared to the prodigies in Wang Qiyi's team, resulting in its consistently bottom-tier strength. Its only redeeming quality is its flying ability, which is on par with Dracula's. Gamabunta is exceptionally talented, but unfortunately, he started learning too late. Even though he has grown rapidly, his predecessors were all geniuses.
If it weren't for the spiritual baptism in the training cave, Gamabunta and Exeggcute would still be struggling at the Legendary level. Now that they have just stepped into the Legendary level, it also means that all of Wang Qiyi's Pokémon have become Legendary, making him the strongest Legendary trainer in the true sense.
Another week and a half passed, and the provincial qualifying rounds concluded. With 1024 slots per attribute, the number of participating Pokémon in Beijing was quite high, totaling [number missing]. Distributed among the 34 provincial-level administrative units, Zhejiang Province received 720 slots, averaging 40 slots per attribute.
In the Zhejiang Provincial Selection Tournament, only the top 35 players need to qualify to participate. Five spots are reserved for each attribute for a few top trainers in the province to be recommended for the main tournament.
Jia Wencheng registered all six of his Pokémon for the competition: Alakazam in the Psychic-type group, Gengar in the Poison-type group, Pidgeot in the Flying-type group, Gyarados in the Water-type group, Butterfree in the Bug-type group, and Milotic in the Water-type group. Having experienced the Southeast Asian battlefield, even the legendary Milotic was willing to obey his commands, marking its official capture. Because he had earned high-level resources through military merit on the battlefield, Gyarados and Alakazam also reached the legendary level. Now, Jia Wencheng was comparable to trainers who had just entered the legendary rank.
In Jia Wencheng's preliminary rounds, Alakazam, Gyarados, and Butterfree successfully advanced to the main tournament, while the other Pokémon were eliminated. He hadn't expected this result. He had thought that even the legendary Milotic would advance, but he hadn't anticipated that Zhejiang Province, being a coastal province, had the strongest Water-type Pokémon, with many Master Trainers possessing legendary-level ace Pokémon.
Another surprise was that Butterfree actually advanced. It's possible that Bug-type Pokémon are generally weaker, but even a Master-level Butterfree was able to advance to the top 35 in the Zhejiang Province qualifiers.
