Chapter 352 - 354: The So-called Feast
Chapter 352 - 354: The So-called Feast
Ming Yue turned pale with fright. She was terrified and confused, but she knew Su Nian wouldn’t just make things up.
’Then the problem must be with my future mother-in-law, right?’
She carefully peeked over, but from her perspective...
...the old woman looked perfectly normal. She was just thin and frail due to her advanced age, with her somewhat long white hair tucked behind her ears.
But no matter how she looked at her, she didn’t look like a corpse...
[HOLY SHIT, HOLY SHIT! Listen to me, girl, you need to run! NOW!]
[Stop looking! I knew something was off. And doesn’t this mud-brick house seem weird to you all? I thought it was strange the moment I saw it. Who even lives in a mud-brick house anymore? It’s like something from decades ago.]
[Yeah, my family was dirt poor, and even we only lived in one when I was a little kid. Nobody lives in these kinds of houses now!]
[Seriously, what century is this? Still living in a mud-brick house.]
Ming Yue studied her surroundings cautiously. A hint of doubt appeared on her face, her mind reeling with confusion.
Still, she argued softly.
"But on our way here, the entire village was full of mud-brick houses just like this!"
It wasn’t that she wanted to doubt Su Nian. It was just that when she thought of her boyfriend and her perfectly normal-looking future mother-in-law, she couldn’t help but feel bewildered.
She looked at Su Nian and asked again, "Streamer, are you really sure? Are you certain my future mother-in-law is... dead?"
Su Nian lifted her chin slightly, a glint in her eyes, and nodded seriously.
"Yes, she’s dead. And she’s been dead for many years. From what I can see, her flesh has already started to blacken and decay, and her bones are showing through."
Hearing Su Nian’s description, the girl instantly panicked.
She cautiously raised her head and looked around, then whispered, "Streamer, are they... going to eat me?"
She had seen plenty of the streamer’s iconic ghost-busting moments, but Su Nian was too far away right now.
Besides, she was out in the countryside; there was no way the streamer could get here in time to save her. How was she supposed to handle this on her own?
She took another careful look at the old woman, who was sitting stiffly at the table, eating.
The old woman noticed her gaze. She smoothed down her dry, brittle hair and spoke, her voice a hoarse, deep rasp from her throat.
"Yueyue, come and eat. Hurry, come on..."
Ming Yue saw the table was already laden with a huge meal. She remembered watching her future mother-in-law prepare it with her own eyes. To welcome her, she’d killed a chicken and a fish.
She’d even cooked up their treasured cured meat. A whole table of delicious food was laid out before her.
After a long day of travel, Ming Yue was exhausted and famished. She couldn’t help but swallow hard, her eyes fixed on the feast.
She turned back to look at Su Nian.
"My mother-in-law hasn’t come back from the dead, has she? Could it be because she likes me that much? She heard her son was getting married, got too excited, and crawled out of her grave to cook for me?"
Ming Yue whispered the question. Her completely outlandish train of thought stunned the viewers in the live stream chat.
[SHOCKING!! My Mother-in-Law Liked Me So Much, She Climbed Out of Her Grave to Cook for Me!]
[At first glance, that sounds wrong. On second glance, that sounds REALLY wrong!!]
[LMAO, I’m dying. Girl, could you BE any more ridiculous?!]
[I dunno, maybe it’s not impossible. What if it’s because she found out her son found his true love!]
As Ming Yue thought about it, she even started to feel it was a sweet burden.
She looked cautiously at Su Nian again.
"Master, can I eat the food? I’m really getting hungry."
She said, rubbing her stomach.
Su Nian shook her head, her tone as placid as ever, yet tinged with an almost imperceptible coldness.
"That’s not the delicious feast you think you’re seeing. In my eyes, those are plates of centipedes, snakes, and the corpses of various spiders and insects."
Su Nian’s tone was mild, but the scene she described was utterly horrifying.
[I’m actually going to throw up. So this is their ’gracious hospitality’ that’s so hard to refuse?]
[I started feeling sick the moment she said ’centipedes.’ It looked so delicious to me, too, but now you’re telling me it’s actually spiders and insects!!]
[But why do they look so happy eating it?]
[I don’t know why, but even though the food still looks delicious, after hearing the streamer’s description, watching the way they’re eating it just makes me feel sick!]
Ming Yue cautiously glanced back and took a deep breath.
She saw her boyfriend and his family feasting, not a hint of displeasure on their faces. Yet the streamer was insisting it was all disgusting filth.
She was torn. She decided she didn’t dare eat the food, but she raised a new question.
Even though the streamer had seemingly never been wrong before, her heart was still filled with doubt.
Ming Yue then pointed to the television, her tone tinged with defiance.
"But they can even turn on the TV!"
Su Nian’s gaze flickered over.
"That’s because someone burned one for her."
’Burned?’
Ming Yue was even more bewildered. She looked around again. In her eyes, this was a small house filled with the warmth of daily life. How could it be something that was "burned"?
