Chapter 5
Chapter 5
The man seemed oblivious to the fleeting murderous intent emanating from her, and proceeded to wash the bowl clean and tidy everything up.
Then Nalan Jing noticed that he walked to a dark place, sat down against a pillar, closed his eyes, and prepared to sleep, which made him frown.
Has he been sleeping like this for the past few days?
In this kind of weather, even though he was wearing clothes, they weren't very thick, and he could easily catch a cold if he wasn't careful, especially since he was so far away from the fire.
As if Nalan Jingwen's gaze was too intense, the man, who had been keeping his eyes closed, slowly opened them and turned his face precisely toward her.
"What's wrong? Is there anything else amiss?"
"Come and sleep here, you can't get warm from the fire there."
Anyway, there's no one else here, and no one will gossip.
The man remained silent for a moment, then did not refuse. He got up and walked to her side, sitting down against a nearby pillar. The firelight illuminated his handsome face, casting a warm and gentle glow.
Let's build it together.
Anyway, this cloak is big enough that giving him half of it would be more than enough.
The man opened his eyes and stared at her with those unfocused eyes, his expression unreadable. Nalan Jingwen met his gaze, even though she knew he couldn't see.
After a long silence, he whispered, "Okay."
She stretched out her jade-like hands, pulled a corner of the cloak over herself, covering herself with just a small corner, nothing more.
Nalan Jingwen didn't say anything, nor did he force him.
Outside, the wind and snow raged, and the gale was fierce, but inside, a corner of the house was quiet and peaceful.
Nalan Jingwen lay down beside the man, watching him close his eyes and smelling the faint fragrance emanating from him, feeling somewhat drowsy.
"I still don't know your name."
It was very soft, like a murmur, and she didn't know if the man heard it. Just as she was drifting off to sleep, she seemed to hear a sound, clear and gentle, carrying a trace of melancholy.
“Qishan, my name is Liu Qishan.”
It seems real and imaginary.
It sounded like it was coming from a very far place.
But she no longer had the strength to distinguish.
……
It was that familiar fog again, that familiar environment. Nalan Jingwen was already used to it and stood quietly in place waiting.
Sure enough, the familiar red figure appeared again, but surprisingly, the lovestruck man did not appear. Nalan Jingwen was puzzled and wanted to go forward to check, but he still could not move an inch.
The woman stood there, facing an enormous well, though it didn't quite resemble a well. Thunder rumbled within, and looking down revealed a massive whirlpool, swirling wildly with roars of lightning and storms. Dark clouds obscured the view, and the bottom was unfathomable, making it a place that inspired fear and trepidation.
The woman stood quietly by the well, watching. The wind blew her beautiful long hair and dress, making them flutter. The black and red colors blended strangely, creating an ethereal effect, as if she would disappear into the sky at any moment.
She stood there, motionless, like a statue, exuding an ancient and powerful aura that inspired awe and made people afraid to look directly at her.
"grown ups!"
The sound came from afar, growing closer.
The woman moved slightly and looked in the direction of the sound.
A group of women with white hair and youthful faces appeared, accompanied by several young men. They ran towards the woman and knelt down in front of her.
The woman glanced at him and said indifferently, "Get up."
A group of people shook their heads and refused to stand up. They looked up at the woman, their eyes glistening with tears, their voices heavy with sorrow.
"My lord, are you truly certain? Is there no other way?"
Upon hearing this, the woman tilted her head slightly, revealing her fair and well-defined jawline, and looked towards the distant horizon, her voice ethereal and indistinct.
"We both know that once the Yingtian Stone breaks, the world will be thrown into chaos. There will be no peace, and the human realm will be plunged into endless darkness, barren and devastated. Only by sacrificing the body of the chief god can peace be restored to the human world."
Everyone fell silent as they listened.
Yes, the Yingtian Stone is the stone that protects the order of the human world, but now it has been destroyed, and the human world is in great chaos. If we do not take action now, it will be too late.
"But……"
The woman gently raised her hand, stopping them from saying what they were about to say.
“I was born from heaven and earth and have a mission to become the first chief god since the beginning of time. Human beings worship me and make offerings to me with piety, and I should protect their peace.”
“You are the people who have followed me from the very beginning, and you are the people I trust the most. Now that I am gone, I entrust the divine realm to you elders.”
The woman smiled slightly and took a step forward, just one step away from falling into that endless abyss.
"grown ups!!"
"But now humanity has become greedy and ugly, deluding itself into wanting more of God's protection and guidance, and even wanting to replace God. Is such humanity really worth protecting?!"
A sudden male voice rang out, catching everyone off guard. They all looked over in surprise and doubt, even the woman stopped in her tracks and looked in the direction of the voice. It was a young man.
The other elders frowned. Although everyone thought so, it was a taboo of the Supreme God, and no one dared to say it. This young man was so bold!
The woman raised her eyes, her face expressionless, her voice carrying a hint of authority.
"I recognize you. Where is your master?"
The boy seemed to have rushed over, and was a little out of breath. He immediately knelt down upon hearing the woman's words.
"My Lord God, they are not worth you doing this!"
"I'm asking you a question: Where is your master?"
The woman did not answer his question, but continued to press him, her imposing aura almost suffocating him.
The boy's straight back gradually bent, but his head refused to lower, still stubbornly staring at the woman, and he gritted his teeth and spoke.
“The master said that you don’t want him anymore, and that he is of no use here.”
The oppressive aura emanating from her suddenly subsided, and everyone breathed a sigh of relief, not daring to look up at the woman.
“He’s always been like this, and he loves freedom the most. I’ve forced him to stay by my side for too long, and it’s time to let him go.”
The woman lowered her eyes, her expression indifferent, but her tone was somewhat wistful.
"You've been by his side the longest, so you should take good care of him."
Nalan Jingwen had her back to them, so she couldn't see the woman's expression, but from the tone of her voice, she clearly had feelings for the man, but had no choice but to let him go.
"My lord! Master has no intention of leaving you! Don't you know how much he loves you?!"
"enough!"
The leading elder interrupted the boy.
"How dare you threaten the master with your feelings? You and your master think far too highly of yourselves!! You're just a mere man, yet you presume to disobey the master's orders!!"
"you!"
The boy's eyes widened, filled with rage.
"have you had enough!"
The woman gave a sharp shout, and the room fell silent instantly.
She squinted, a storm brewing in her eyes, her expression cold.
"Whether it's worth it or not is not for you to decide. My mind is made up, and no one is allowed to say another word, not even him!"
The last sentence was spoken while looking at that lonely red figure in the distance.
"My lord, you may leave in peace. We will surely find you again and welcome you back."
Everyone prostrated themselves on the ground in utmost reverence.
Without the slightest hesitation, the woman turned and jumped into the endless abyss.
In an instant, the light shone brightly, all beasts cried out in sorrow, and the mountains and rivers stood still.
