The landlord talked for who knows how long, describing it vividly.
Just as the landlord couldn't come up with anything else, a sharp voice suddenly came from inside the house.
"You gambled it away again?!"
In the cramped and small rented room, the sunlight that should have been full of life seemed weak as it shone into the room.
The woman wore cheap, rough makeup, her eyes were bloodshot, and her long, bright red fingernails scratched at the man's back: "Going gambling again, going gambling again, why don't you just gamble yourself to death? Look at you, do you even have a human face left!"
"Let me go!" the man roared, wincing in pain. His honest, unassuming demeanor vanished in an instant, his cheekbones jutting out sharply. "What right do you have to talk to me like that? Aren't you ashamed of what you've done?!"
The woman spat and slapped the man across the face with surprising force.
The two quickly started fighting, throwing things around the room at each other.
Amidst the clattering and clanging sounds, there was a not-so-obtrusive creaking sound.
The child crouched down to pick up the bottles that had been kicked and scattered on the ground, slowly piling them up one by one, then bundling them into a ball. The bright red string mingled with the scars on his hands, making it impossible to tell whether it was the blood or the string. Finally, he stepped on the plastic bottles to tighten the string, making a creaking sound.
"Xu Mufeng! Come here!"
Sometimes, the connections between people are just like that, a matter of fate.
When the landlord walked into the yard and called out the name.
Gu Xinglan began to recall the child who had been wary and hostile towards him just moments before.
“I just gave you a bath yesterday, how come you’re in this state again? It’s expensive to hire someone to do things these days!” The landlord grabbed the child by the collar, her teeth clenched. “You’re going to be on TV, not a homeless person.”
After saying that, he called out to Gu Xinglan outside, "You two, come in."
The landlord remained calm, seemingly unfazed by the commotion inside. He continued shouting at his own pace, his voice neither too loud nor too soft, carrying just enough for the two fighting individuals to hear from the yard into the house.
Ding Xiuying held the kettle, while Xu Dong held the ladle.
The two of them stopped when they heard the noise outside and looked out.
Ding Xiuying was the first to react and quickly tidied her clothes.
Today is the day the production team will come to have a detailed talk with her.
Upon seeing this, Xu Dong scoffed, calling her a slut.
"If you keep spouting nonsense, I'll tear your mouth apart." Ding Xiuying said in a breathy voice, afraid of disturbing the important people outside.
It only takes a moment to rise to prominence. There are many villages within a ten-mile radius that are even poorer than their family. If they don't seize the opportunity, it will slip away. This is something she worked so hard to achieve.
With a creak, the half-closed door was opened.
"Distinguished guests..."
Ding Xiuying's smile froze halfway through her sentence, and she stood frozen in place.
It was a sunny day, and a gentle breeze caressed the man.
He appeared in her line of sight so suddenly, backlit, his figure outlined with a faint golden edge. At that moment, her heart felt as if it had been gripped tightly by an invisible hand, and even her breath caught in her throat. Then, like a supercar running at full throttle, it roared and roared incessantly, as if the surrounding air had been sucked away.
It was as if the whole world consisted only of his own rapid heartbeat and his bright, gentle, and clear eyes.
Ding Xiuying couldn't take her eyes off her.
"Hello." She reached out in a daze, tidying her hair.
The landlord stood at the front, and he knew that the greeting was definitely not directed at him.
The woman in front of him was different from the one who had been shouting and screaming just now. Her head was slightly lowered, and her eyes looked up at Gu Xinglan, giving off a rather petite and dependent feeling.
"Hello," Gu Xinglan replied with a polite smile.
The man inside the house saw this scene clearly. Xu Dong gritted his teeth and thought to himself, "You sissy, I spit on you!"
"We're here to explain something," the cameraman said in a loud voice. "You've already signed the contract, so we're temporarily designating Mr. Gu as Xu's guardian."
Money makes the world go round, and Meng Guanhe handled this matter without any hesitation.
“Gu, Gu, that’s a good surname.” Ding Xiuying’s words were slightly slurred, her face flushed: “The child is adopted.”
“But he also calls me Mom…” She looked at Gu Xinglan softly, inexplicably shy.
"Ahem." The landlord pointed at Gu Xinglan: "He's the tenant who lives in the front. That cameraman is from a big company. He's been to that desert, you know, he's seen the world!"
She flirted with the wrong people.
The landlord, with his prominent yellow teeth, sneered inwardly.
As a result, there was a "bang".
The iron gate was suddenly flung open, and the landlord standing in front stumbled and fell straight to the ground.
"Get out! All of you, get out!!"
Xu Dong took two gulps of the liquor meant for the local earth god and the god of wealth, his whole body radiating a fierce aura: "Why go on TV! Do you want the whole country to see my bastard child?!"
"You little bastard, how dare you go up there and embarrass me! I'll beat you to death!"
