Chapter 188 Making a grand appearance
Chapter 188 Making a grand appearance
When Fei Xi woke up, her face was dark.
She slept soundly without any dreams, but as if a demon had drained her of her life force, she felt listless and lacked any energy.
Only after being brought before Qiu Shuying by a masked servant did Fei Xi conceal the strange expression on her face and step forward to greet her.
After being invited to sit down, Fei Xi ate her breakfast while noticing a satisfied smile on Qiu Shuying's face.
The other person kept rubbing their lips, as if savoring something.
Fei Xi lowered her eyes slightly, concealing her inner speculation.
After a hasty breakfast, at Qiu Shuying's request, Fei Xi changed into a long, exotic dress with a red honeysuckle pattern and put on a matching veil.
The long dress adorned with jewels and gold threads was exceptionally luxurious, while the veil draped with pigeon-blood rubies added a touch of ethereal beauty.
Dressed like this, Fei Xi looked mysterious and exuded an air of nobility.
Then, a thick black cloth was placed over her eyes.
Someone led her a long way forward, and then they went up some steps.
As she traveled, Fei Xi paid special attention and noticed many different smells. Various spices could not mask the decay and dampness of the earth, there was a faint smell of blood, and some indescribable stench.
But when the sunlight shines down, it transforms into the fresh scent of hay and a faint aroma of grass mixed with leather.
A bell rang, and Fei Xi realized that someone was leading her up a few steps. Then she was pressed down into a chair with a blue curtain, where she could lean back and rest.
As her feet swayed, Fei Xi felt herself being lifted up along with the chair.
Presumably, he was riding a horse.
Considering the smell and the occasional ringing of bells, Fei Xi deduced that the mount she was riding was a camel.
They walked like this for about two hours, swaying back and forth. The brocade-covered folding chair was small but very comfortable, and Fei Xi, who was resting against it, was drowsy from the swaying.
Just as she was about to fall asleep, the shaking suddenly stopped.
She heard someone speaking broken Chinese in the distance, talking to the person at her feet.
"Distinguished guests from afar, have you come to attend the music and dance festival of my kingdom of Us? It is truly impolite of you, but by order of the King, this year's music and dance festival has been cancelled."
"Why?"
“Our Prince Yarrow has been kidnapped by treacherous men. The king is so worried about this that he has lost his appetite and has no heart to hold a celebration.”
"Is that Shaye speaking down below? Go quickly and inform my father that I have returned!"
The clear and cheerful male voice sounded familiar. Fei Xi immediately remembered that this person was the prince of the Kingdom of Us who called himself "Yaro" in Qiu Shuying's experimental pharmacy.
Why would Qiu Shuying release someone on her own initiative? What is she really up to?
After a period of chaos and war, the camel carried Fei Xi for a while until they arrived at a place filled with the fragrance of flowers.
The camel knelt down, and Fei Xi noticed someone trying to help her down.
At the same time, a pair of hands removed the black cloth covering her eyes.
Stepping out of the blue tent, after her eyes adjusted to the light, the first thing that caught Fei Xi's eye was a string of mandalas hanging like wind chimes.
With a gentle breeze, the swaying flowers danced like beauties, their pure and alluring beauty like fairies.
Fei Xi curiously examined the unfamiliar city before her. Not far from her stood a castle that looked as if it were made of white jade.
Squads of soldiers faithfully guarded the gates of the castle, and several squads of soldiers patrolled back and forth from time to time.
Turning my head, I saw that the streets in the distance outside the castle were mostly made of yellowish-brown mud houses, with a few exceptionally large and ornate tents occasionally interspersed among them.
Brightly colored carpets are laid out in front of most of the mud houses along the main bluestone road.
The carpet was filled with a dazzling array of items for sale, the most common being silk, carpets, spices, wine and food, as well as patches of white cacti.
Fei Xi was engrossed in watching when the hand supporting her suddenly squeezed her hard.
The one pinching her was a maid she had never met before. She had a pretty face but a slightly stiff expression, though she did have a pair of affectionate eyes.
Even though the other party was disguised, Fei Xi recognized Qiu Shuying at a glance.
Before he could ask what the other party intended, surrounded by a group of people, Yaro stepped forward and extended his hand to Fei Xi:
“Princess Shouguang, thank you for saving my life. Please come with me to meet my father.”
The little prince, all dressed up and in his finest clothes, had his golden hair gleaming in the sunlight, a sight that inexplicably brought joy to anyone who looked at him.
While he verbally invited Fei Xi, an unnatural and strange expression appeared on his face.
Fei Xi remained silent and nodded slightly.
Led by Prince Yarrow, Fei Xi and her party entered the castle without any hindrance.
Before long, they arrived at a luxurious hall paved with lapis lazuli.
Tiny gold flecks shimmer in the deep indigo blue; the moment you step inside, you feel as if you've fallen into a deep sea formed from condensed stars. Above you are auspicious birds and beasts inlaid with countless gold foils, and the walls are made of deep blue gemstones, with golden fretwork outlining the edges.
Bathed in the shimmering light, the entire room seemed like holy light floating in the universe, sacred and dazzling.
An elderly, well-to-do man with slightly curly white hair sat regally on the throne above.
Below him were four low white jade tables, three of which were occupied by people.
At the table to the right sat a middle-aged, plump man who looked as well-off as the old man above.
His small, triangular eyes were sunken beneath swollen eyelids, his nose was slightly flat, and his lips were plump. When he squinted and smiled, apart from his lips, his entire face seemed to be sunken into flesh, making him look both frightening and ridiculous.
But his smile is very friendly, and his harmless demeanor makes anyone who sees him feel good at first sight, yet they may also feel a little afraid of him because of his appearance.
Behind the middle-aged, overweight man stood three guards, and he had a charming dancer in his arms. When he heard the noise and caught sight of Fei Xi and her group, his smile deepened.
Fei Xi, her face covered by a red veil, met those small eyes. Her pupils contracted slightly before she quickly turned her head to look at the table below the middle-aged fat man.
Below the middle-aged fat man was a man dressed in Hu clothing, with a mustache and a sleazy appearance.
The man's face was sickly pale, and his eyes darted around furtively, occasionally glancing at the beauty in the fat man's arms.
His lecherous, drooling expression terrified the dancer, who shrank back into the fat man's arms. This action caused the middle-aged fat man to turn his gaze away from Fei Xi and quickly comfort the beauty in his arms.
As soon as Fei Xi stepped in, the lewd man's disgusting, sticky gaze shifted from the dancer to Fei Xi.
He stroked his right mustache, and the next second a shrill, flippant voice rang out in the hall:
"Your Majesty, who is this woman? Won't you introduce her to us?"
Before he could finish speaking, the lewd man swayed and appeared in front of Fei Xi in an instant, reaching out to remove the veil from her face.
This man moved incredibly fast, his attacks as swift as lightning. Although Fei Xi managed to dodge the hand reaching for her chest with her ethereal movements, the veil on her face was ripped off by the lewd man.
Before the lewd man could even bring the veil close to his nose to sniff it, accompanied by the clinking sound of the pigeon-blood ruby falling to the ground, a sword aura mercilessly attacked him.
A hot-blooded young man leaped from the table to his left:
"Who this woman is is none of your business! You toad, trying to bully a weak woman in public? First, ask the sword in my hand if it will allow it!"
The young man's swordsmanship was sharp, but the lewd man, despite his lewd appearance, was by no means weak in martial arts.
He turned his body and made a swift move. With a flick of his wrist, his two slender fingers, like snakes emerging from their holes, caught the blade that was thrusting towards him with lightning speed.
The steel-forged sword was held between two fingers, the fingertips touching the sharp blade. The lewd man's skin was taut but not broken, and the veins on his pale knuckles bulged slightly, as if they contained immense force.
The young man's eyes were wide open as he tried desperately to pull the sword back from his hand.
However, no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't wrest his weapon back from those two domineering fingers.
Seeing that his junior brother was at a disadvantage, another tall man sitting to the left of the young man immediately stood up, clasped his hands in a salute, and said:
“Junior brother, please refrain from rudeness! Lord Tao, this woman is likely a distinguished guest of the Kingdom of Uz, just like us. The king has treated us with courtesy, so we should reciprocate. Lord Tao is no ordinary person either, so why make things difficult for a mere woman?”
"These days, there are always some Tom, Dick, and Harry who become infatuated with women and try to play the hero and save the damsel in distress. Before they even take a piss and look in the mirror, they should at least ask the girl if she appreciates their efforts."
As the lewd man spoke, he channeled his inner energy into the sword through his fingertips. Caught off guard, the young man was instantly knocked to his knees by the powerful inner energy, coughing up blood.
The lewd man then released the sword, letting it fall onto the young man as if discarding trash.
After he finished speaking, he cast a fawning glance at Fei Xi, his face full of smug satisfaction.
"Right, little girl? This kind of spineless coward is all show and no substance. Why don't you come into your brother's arms and let him take good care of you?"
"you!"
The old king above seemed oblivious to the tense standoff below, his eyes brimming with tears as he tightly clutched his son, whom he had just regained.
Seeing the fight break out below, the old king quickly pulled back the young prince who was about to step forward, and then slowly and deliberately responded to the lewd man's words:
“Lord Tao, this is my son’s savior, and also the esteemed Princess of the Upper Kingdom.”
"Princess Shouguang, please take a seat."
Phyllis nodded in response to the old king, and then, led by a servant, walked to the first table on the left.
She didn't look at the two fellow disciples who stood up for her, nor at the lewd man who was harassing her.
Throughout, her gaze remained fixed on the one-eyed old man standing behind his fellow disciples, coldly observing the farce unfolding before him without uttering a word.
She silently called out in her heart: Grandpa Luo!
