Chapter 10 Finding Medicine and Antidote, and a Glimmer of Hope

Wanru's mind kept flashing through images of the herbs that might help detoxify Huanmo. She was anxious and worried, wondering if she could find them successfully in this Warring States period.

"We must find those herbs. Young Master Huanmo cannot be harmed!" Wanru vowed silently in her heart. She held Huanmo's hand tightly, as if she could transfer some strength to him in the process.

Huanmo looked at Wanru's anxious yet determined expression and was deeply moved. Although he knew that he was seriously poisoned and his condition was not optimistic, seeing how much Wanru cared about him, he didn't want her to worry too much.

"Wanru, don't be too hard on yourself. This poison... might not be so easy to cure. You don't need to overwork yourself," Huanmo said weakly, her voice as light as a feather falling.

Upon hearing this, Wanru couldn't stop her tears from flowing. She shook her head and choked out, "Young master, please don't say such things. I must try. I remember there are some herbs that might alleviate this poison. I'll go find them right now."

After saying that, Wanru released Huanmo's hand, turned around and walked quickly out of the house, her figure exuding a resolute air.

At this moment, Wanru was preoccupied with finding herbs. She walked briskly through the mansion, trying her best to recall the growth habits and appearance of those herbs.

"That antidote herb prefers damp, shady places and often grows in valleys and streams, and there's that one..." Wanru murmured to herself. She knew that time was of the essence and Huanmo's life could end at any moment, so not a single second could be wasted.

She first searched the mansion's garden carefully, but the garden was mostly planted with ornamental flowers and not the herbs she was looking for.

Wanru was somewhat disappointed, but she didn't give up. She thought that there might be more hope in the mountains outside the mansion. So, she hurried towards the mansion gate and met Xiaozhu along the way.

"Miss, where are you going? Young Master..." Xiao Zhu asked with a worried expression.

"Xiao Zhu, I need to go outside to find some herbs to detoxify the young master. Please take good care of him for me. I'll be back soon," Wan Ru said quickly, then turned and ran towards the gate of the mansion without looking back.

Xiaozhu watched Wanru's departing figure, filled with doubt, but knowing the situation was critical, she could only nod silently before turning back to the house to look after Huanmo.

Wanru left the mansion and hurried towards the mountains outside the city. Her steps were hurried, and she had no time to appreciate the scenery along the way; her eyes were only on the few life-saving herbs.

Upon arriving in the mountains, Wanru began her careful search. She moved through the trees, parting clumps of weeds, leaving no corner unchecked where herbs might grow.

"Please, please appear here." Wanru prayed silently in her heart, sweat soaking her forehead and sliding down her cheeks, but she was completely unaware.

After an unknown amount of time, just when Wanru was almost in despair, her eyes suddenly lit up. In a shady corner by a stream, she found several familiar herbs—one of the antidotes she was looking for.

"Found it! That's great!" Wanru was so excited she almost shouted. She carefully squatted down, dug up the antidote herbs by the roots, scooped them up with her skirt, and then continued to search for other herbs.

Persistence pays off. After a difficult search, Wanru finally found most of the herbs she needed in the mountains. Only the last and most crucial herb remained to be found.

"This is the only one left. We have to find it." Wanru gritted her teeth and continued to search deeper into the mountains and forests.

However, as darkness fell, the light in the forest grew increasingly dim, making the search more and more difficult. Wanru grew increasingly anxious, knowing that once it got dark, not only would finding herbs in the forest become more difficult, but her own safety would also be at risk.

Just when Wanru was about to give up, she suddenly heard the faint sound of flowing water. A thought struck her, and she remembered that the last kind of herb liked to grow in places with flowing water.

Wanru followed the sound of the flowing water and finally found the last herb by a small pool at the foot of a mountain wall.

"Finally found it!" Wanru was so excited that tears welled up in her eyes. She quickly picked the herb, then used her skirt to gather all the herbs and turned to walk down the mountain.

Although Wanru was exhausted, her heart was filled with hope. She thought that as long as she could return to the manor as soon as possible and have the doctor use these herbs to detoxify Huanmo, the young master Huanmo would surely recover.

But when she rushed back to the mansion, she found it in complete chaos.

The servants came and went, looking flustered; some were talking in hushed tones, while others were hurriedly moving things. Wanru felt a tightness in her chest, and an ominous premonition welled up inside her.

"What's going on? What happened?" Wanru asked, grabbing a servant.

The servant glanced at her and said anxiously, "Miss, you're finally back! Young Master... Young Master's condition has suddenly worsened. The doctors are doing everything they can to save him. And... and it seems there's something else going on in the manor. Someone said they saw some suspicious people loitering outside. Everyone is worried that something might happen."

Upon hearing this, Wanru was struck dumb, nearly dropping the herbs in her hands. Without a second thought, she rushed towards Huanmo's room.

When she arrived at Huanmo's room, she saw several doctors gathered inside, all with grave expressions, busily administering first aid. Huanmo lay on the bed, her face as pale as paper, her lips already turned bluish-purple, and her condition appeared extremely critical.

Wanru felt as if a large hand was gripping her heart tightly. She walked tremblingly to the bedside and whispered, "Young Master Huanmo, I'm back. I've found the herbs. You must hold on!"

However, Huanmo seemed to have fallen into a coma and did not respond to Wanru's calls.

When the doctors saw Wanru return, a glimmer of hope flashed in their eyes, but it was quickly replaced by worry.

“Young lady, the herbs you found may be useful, but the young master’s condition is far too serious. We can only try our best,” a doctor said.

Wanru nodded quickly, handed the herbs in her hand to the doctors, and said, "Doctors, please, please save the young master. These herbs are what I found with great difficulty; they should be able to detoxify him."

The doctors took the herbs and immediately began preparing to decoct the antidote.

Wanru waited anxiously to the side, her eyes fixed on Huanmo, her heart filled with prayer.

Time passed slowly in the tense atmosphere, and the antidote was finally prepared. The doctors carefully fed the antidote to Huanmo and then continued to observe his condition.

Wanru clenched her fists with nervousness, staring intently at Huanmo, waiting for a miracle to happen.

After a while, Huanmo's complexion seemed to change slightly, no longer as pale as paper as before.

Wanru was overjoyed, thinking that Huanmo was about to recover, but at that moment, Huanmo suddenly coughed violently and spat out a mouthful of black blood.

Wanru screamed in fright, "Young Master! What happened? Doctor, how could he be like this?"

The doctors were also astonished. They rushed forward to check on Huanmo's condition, and after some examination, one of the doctors shook his head helplessly.

"Young lady, this poison is extremely potent. Although the herbs have provided some relief, they are not enough to completely eliminate the toxins. Young master... he is probably still in grave danger," the doctor said, his voice filled with despair.

Upon hearing this, Wanru felt as if the sky were falling. She collapsed to the ground, tears streaming down her face like a burst dam.

"No, no, Young Master Huanmo will be alright, there must be a way, there must be a way..." Wanru kept repeating to herself, her mind blank, completely at a loss for what to do.

Just then, Wanru suddenly remembered her time travel. She came from the modern world, where technology and knowledge were so advanced. If she could return to the modern world, perhaps she could find a way to save Huanmo.

But how can she get back to the modern world? She has no idea how to travel back in time.
