Li Yan stared intently at the doorway, waiting for Duan Yujing to arrive. She wanted to hear the answer from Duan Yujing himself.
But every second of waiting felt like torture.
She didn't know what the outcome would be—utter heartbreak or an unexpected surprise.
Li Yan didn't speak, she just quietly looked at the doorway.
As soon as Duan Yujing entered the room, he saw Li Yan's complicated gaze, and his heart tightened as if it were being gripped tightly by an invisible hand.
He hurriedly walked up to Li Yan, his eyes filled with anxiety and worry.
"Li Yan, let me explain." Duan Yujing's voice was a little urgent. He reached out to grab Li Yan's hand, but Li Yan gently dodged it.
His hand froze awkwardly in mid-air before he reluctantly lowered it.
“I don’t know this woman at all. I don’t know why she’s here or why she said those things.”
Duan Yujing spoke sincerely, staring intently at Li Yan, as if he wanted to lay bare his true feelings for her.
Li Yan remained silent, simply watching Duan Yujing quietly.
Duan Yujing turned his head and looked at the woman who claimed to be his fiancée. His eyes instantly turned cold, like a drawn sword, gleaming with a chilling light.
"Who are you? Why are you spouting nonsense here?"
The woman, Gao Rui, was somewhat at a loss for words after being questioned by Duan Yujing.
Her face was slightly pale, but she still tried to remain calm.
“Yu Jing, it’s me, Gao Rui. How can you say you don’t know me? This was arranged by Grandpa Duan. He wants us to be together.”
Gao Rui's voice carried a hint of grievance, but even more so, a sense of resentment.
Duan Yujing frowned, his eyes devoid of any warmth.
"No matter who arranged it, I don't know you and don't want to have anything to do with you." After he finished speaking, he called his secretary.
"Get this woman out of here. She is not allowed to set foot in the company again without my permission."
His voice was cold and decisive.
The secretary nodded respectfully and then walked towards Gao Rui.
"Miss Gao, please."
The secretary's voice was polite, but her tone was cold.
Gao Rui stared wide-eyed in disbelief.
She never expected Duan Yujing to be so heartless.
"Duan Yujing, you can't do this to me! This is Old Master Duan's wish. Are you really going to go against his wishes like this?"
Her voice, sharp with excitement, echoed in the quiet office, sounding somewhat jarring.
Duan Yujing sneered, his eyes filled with disdain.
"What does Grandpa Duan mean? I will make my own decisions about my own feelings. I don't care what his plans are. All I know is that I love Li Yan, and everyone else is none of my business."
As he spoke, he looked at Li Yan, and the tenderness in his eyes returned, like the warm and bright sunshine in spring.
Gao Rui was so angry at Duan Yujing's words that she trembled all over. She knew that she was completely out of the picture today.
She gritted her teeth, took one last look at Duan Yujing and Li Yan, then turned and quickly left the office.
The high heels made a crisp sound on the ground, as if venting her anger.
Even after leaving, Gao Rui's anger and humiliation did not diminish in the slightest.
She went to find Grandpa Duan, and when she saw him reading the newspaper, she immediately threw herself into his arms and started crying.
"Grandpa Duan, you must stand up for me!"
Duan Yujing has been seduced by a vixen and doesn't take your words to heart at all. He even had me chased away like a dog.
Grandpa Duan put down his newspaper and gently patted Gao Rui on the back.
