Chapter 9 Let the Bullets Fly for a While
Chapter 9 Let the Bullets Fly for a While
Lu Chen thought he was being emotional enough, but Mike was even more so. He forced himself to calm down, nudged Mike with his elbow, and said rudely, "You're not a qualified mercenary."
Mike was taken aback, looked at Lu Chen, and quickly realized that he was in the same situation as him. He pointed at him and said, "You're not either, but what should we do now? Are we just going to watch them slaughter the villagers?"
"There's a saying in China: 'A kind heart cannot command an army, and righteousness cannot manage finances.' We only have five people. Even if we rush over, we won't be able to solve the problem. What we need to do now is wait. I believe Ibn's men should be arriving soon," Lu Chen said earnestly. He was also reminding himself to stay calm, for the sake of survival and for his family.
"You're right, we can only wait. No, I'll contact them right now," Mike said, nodding vigorously, and then he took out a satellite phone.
Lu Chen quickly pressed his hand against the satellite phone, shook his head and said, "No, contacting them now will expose our location." Although Iraq has experienced years of war, some warlords still possess various high-tech equipment, and we cannot afford to be careless. In fact, the key issue is that their team is too weak.
"You're right, we'll wait here." Mike nodded to Lu Chen and said. At this moment, he was starting to rely on him, just like an advisor.
Lu Chen nodded and continued looking at the village. The sun had already set, and it was getting dark. Before long, night would begin to envelop the village.
At this moment, the ground trembled slightly, followed by the roar of vehicles. Lu Chen was startled and quickly said, "They're here, and they have heavy equipment." Judging from the sound, there were at least armored vehicles or something similar.
He had barely finished speaking when Anthony's voice came through the walkie-talkie: "Boss, Ibn's men are here, a dozen vehicles, two tanks, about four hundred men."
"Stay on guard and remain hidden," Mike said softly. He then looked at Lu Chen. The most crucial moment had arrived. Although he had been leading the werewolf mercenary group for some time, this was the first time he had ever fought a battle where he had to survive in such a precarious situation.
Lu Chen also felt Mike's gaze, and he lowered his voice and said, "Let's keep waiting. At least tonight we don't need to get involved in their affairs."
"Boss, I suggest everyone take a good rest. The real battle is tomorrow during the day," Lu Chen paused before continuing. Actually, he was a little nervous too. After all, this wasn't a drill; it was a real battlefield, and one wrong move could cost you your life.
Mike now had complete faith in Lu Chen. He nodded slightly and said in a low voice into the walkie-talkie, "James, Alex, and Anthony, take the security guards and take turns resting. No one is allowed to fire without my order."
Faced with an armed melee involving nearly a thousand people from both sides, even James didn't dare to act recklessly. The voices of several people were heard over the walkie-talkie.
After Mike finished speaking, he handed a can of luncheon meat to Lu Chen and said with a smile, "Chen, you used to be a special forces soldier." In his eyes, only special forces soldiers had this kind of strength.
Lu Chen shook his head and looked in the direction of the village. It was completely dark by now, but the main road was brightly lit, and the direction of Gangdi Town was even more brightly lit, as if Rahman was afraid that Ibn's people would not be able to find them.
He gave a wry smile and said, "I served in the army for a few years."
"No, you're definitely not an ordinary soldier. You must have been a special forces soldier," Mike said, shaking his head.
Lu Chen leaned against a big tree, glancing occasionally toward the town as he answered Mike's questions.
Meanwhile, on the roof of the town's security company, a group of people stood, led by the infamous Rahman, who was roaring angrily, "Tell me where the thing is, where the werewolf is, where that kid is! I'm going to kill them! Find it for me, dig three feet into the ground if you have to!"
The werewolf mercenary group killed his brother, and he had to take revenge, which is why he came in person.
"General, we haven't found the items or the people, but Ibn's men have arrived, about four hundred of them," one of his men shouted.
Rahman slapped him across the face and shouted, "A bunch of idiots, prepare for battle! I'll show Ibn what I'm capable of!" He then looked at the distant light, picked up his submachine gun, and fired a burst into the distance.
The gunshots were particularly jarring in the quiet night, and they carried far. Lu Chen and his men heard them, as did Ibn's men.
A Hummer came to an abrupt stop. In the passenger seat sat a young man in his thirties, Ibn Abdullah's eldest son, Al-Zar, the commander of Ibn's First Regiment. He waved his hands frantically and shouted, "What's going on? Where did the gunfire come from?" He had no idea that Rahman's men would come.
"Commander, there are a large number of armed men in Gangdi Town. They should be Rahman's men," the staff officer in the back seat said loudly.
"Damn it, Rahman's men, even they can't stop me. We have to complete the mission!" Alz shouted, waving his hand forward and yelling, "Charge in and kill them all!"
At that moment, Lu Chen and Mike were both staring at Alz. As the convoy continued to move forward, they both smiled.
"I thought all of Ibn's men were cowards," Mike said with a laugh.
He had barely finished speaking when fierce gunfire erupted, and dozens of pickup trucks rushed towards Gangdi Town almost simultaneously. The battle began, and the pitch-black night was instantly covered by intense flames.
James's voice came through the walkie-talkie: "Boss, let's take a gamble. I bet Ibn's men will win."
"James, you're doomed. Ibn's men are attacking, and Rahman's men aren't pushovers either. I bet Rahman will win," Anthony's voice came through the walkie-talkie.
Mike said somewhat unhappily, "They were fighting like dogs, and we won."
Lu Chen gave Mike a thumbs-up and said, "The boss is right, who among you can drive a tank?"
"Tank, what's going on?" Anthony said into the walkie-talkie, while Mike looked at Lu Chen with a puzzled expression.
Lu Chen smiled and pointed to the back of Ibn's group, saying, "See those two tanks at the very back? Ibn's men aren't using them. Let's take them from them."
"Chen, don't be ridiculous. Even if we could open it and seize it, it wouldn't make a difference. Besides, if Ibn finds out, he'll hunt us down all over the world. We'll be facing the pursuit of both Rahman and Ibn, the two major warlords," Mike quickly shook his head and said.
Lu Chen shook his head and said, "Ibn's men can't defeat Rahman, and in the end they need our support. But how can we support them? If we had two tanks to support them, Rahman would be dead for sure."
