Chapter 63 The Great Guardian
Chapter 63 The Great Guardian
“So, he’s just a ruler,” March 7 translated Jepard’s words.
“No, it’s the Great Guardian,” Jepard corrected.
"The current guardian is Lady Cocolialand, and all major decisions within the city are made by her," Jepard continued.
"Cocoa...cocoa beans?" Xing mumbled indistinctly.
“It’s Lady Cocolia!” Jepard said, somewhat displeased.
"Alright, I'll take you to meet Lady Cocolia now. You can prepare your speeches beforehand, as her time is precious and she prefers concise reports."
"Huh? We're meeting so soon?" March 7th exclaimed in surprise. "Aren't we supposed to have a meal and do some free time first?"
“That makes sense.” Eve nodded slightly.
We've been traveling for so long, and we haven't even used the train's funds for food and drinks yet!
"Um...we don't think we're a tour group," Xing said timidly from the side.
"But we're starving..." March 7th wanted to say something more.
Jepard then said, "I sent a messenger in advance to inform Lord Cocolia that you are here, so please come with me."
"You'll have free time later after you meet with Lady Cocolia."
“Okay…” March 7th immediately deflated.
Led by Jepard, Eve and her companions entered Cripple Castle.
After passing through layers of guards, the group finally arrived at the Great Guardian's office.
As soon as I entered, I heard an urgent voice:
“But such a sacrifice is meaningless, you can’t….”
Upon seeing Jepard enter with his entourage, the woman seated said unhappily, "You may leave now, Bronya, a visitor has arrived."
Bronya glanced at Eve and the others, then sighed, "Yes, Mother."
After saying that, she left the office.
Eve's gaze followed Bronya until she left the office.
Strange, I feel like that person looks familiar.
Jepard only began to speak after hearing the door close: "Guardian, I have brought three outsiders to pay my respects."
Cocolia nodded. "The messenger has informed me of the situation. Well done, Jepard. You may now step down."
“Yes, Guardian.” Jepard immediately withdrew.
At this moment, only Cocolia and Eve remained in the office.
Cocolia stood up and said to Eve and the others, "Welcome, visitors from beyond the cold... no, from beyond the heavens, right?"
"Hmm, so you're the Great Guardian?" Eve nodded slightly.
“Yes, I am Cocolia Rand, the guardian of Beloborg, and I am here to hear your purpose.” Cocolia nodded.
"Strange, don't you suspect our identities?" March 7 asked curiously.
Cocolia crossed her arms and retorted, "Do you want me to doubt you? Are you that insecure about the identity you claim to have?"
“Uh…” March 7th was speechless.
How could a clever and quick-witted young girl possibly outwit a seasoned veteran of the political arena?
Eve then spoke up: "No, she's not insecure about her identity."
"Instead, it questions your judgment as a guardian of a nation."
"My judgment?" Cocolia smiled upon hearing Eve's words.
She shook her head and said, "No, I have no doubt. I can see that you are not from this world."
"The builders of the city must remember history to strengthen their resolve. I know that in the distant past, before the cold wave arrived and before the legion's invasion, this world was once incredibly prosperous."
"The Star God connected our planet to other worlds, and we learned about the countless possibilities in the vast universe, and we also heard about King Kripper of Amber."
"Under His watchful eye, we began to build the city walls."
“So, although the builders haven’t received any news from the stars for seven hundred years, I know you exist. Tell me your purpose, I’m listening,” Cocolia said confidently.
Xing nodded seriously, "We're here to explore this planet."
A hint of confusion appeared on Cocolia's face.
"Who would understand this?" March 7th said helplessly.
Eve sighed and continued, "We came here for something called the Star Core."
"Star core?" Cocolia murmured to herself.
Eve continued to explain, "It's a substance that suddenly falls into various worlds. Its appearance signifies disaster, and many planets we passed through suffered from the poisoning of their star cores."
"Also, the legion you just mentioned, is it the Antimatter Legion?" Eve asked.
Cocolia nodded. "Yes."
"As expected, it was destruction," Eve said helplessly.
"After the antimatter legion invaded, a cold wave hit this planet, and when the cold wave was born, a spatial erosion phenomenon known as the Rift occurred, right?"
“That’s right.” Cocolia nodded again.
“Yes, then that’s it,” Eve said. “The rift is a phenomenon caused by the star core.”
March 7th continued, "The calamities caused by the star core are different on each planet, but every world where a star core is planted will give birth to a rift."
"I see." Cocolia pondered silently.
"So you are...."
"We are kind-hearted cosmic heroes in the galaxy, like me, from a train called Snowpiercer..."
"Cough cough..."
Before March 7th could finish speaking, Eve interrupted him.
If we don't interrupt it soon, this little three months will go off track again.
Eve sighed and said, "We are nameless people, dedicated to helping worlds troubled by star cores."
“The Nameless Guest…” Cocolia thought for a moment, but it seemed she had never heard of this name before.
She looked at the three people in front of her and continued, "You have analyzed the current situation very clearly."
"Yes, we have indeed encountered these disasters, some of which are still troubles for us today, but what does that have to do with you?"
"This..." March 7th was immediately embarrassed.
Cocolia continued, "Even if such a star core truly exists, I see no connection between the calamities it brings and you all."
"I don't believe anyone would go to great lengths to help a world that has nothing to do with them, without any ulterior motives."
“Who said it was without ulterior motives?” Eve suddenly interrupted Cocolia.
"Oh?" Cocolia looked at Eve and frowned slightly.
“Even Cosmic Knights need to eat,” Eve continued.
"What do you want?" Cocolia immediately became interested.
“The star core,” Eve said directly.
“We have the means to seal the star core, but after it’s done, we need to take the star core with us.”
"In this way, your city will be free from the crisis of the star core."
Cocolia fell silent.
"You... really have a way to seal that thing called the Star Core?"
“We have the means to do so,” Eve nodded.
March 7th put his arm around Eve and Xing's shoulders and said with a smile, "Of course we came, isn't this it!"
Cocolia ignored March 7 and continued, "In that case, I believe you."
"If the current situation is indeed related to this so-called star core, then your arrival will be the hope of Beloborg for seven hundred years. I am willing to provide all possible assistance to help you find the star core."
