"Old Zheng, Chief Han, you and all the surviving Awakened Ones, immediately proceed to the No. 3 Highland defense line and await my orders."
“Although Chief Han can resist those monsters, they are monsters from two source points, and there are many of them. I cannot let you take the risk.”
"We cannot allow our soldiers to confront the unknown terror with their own flesh and blood."
"As it turns out, while nuclear weapons failed to completely annihilate the source, they did severely damage them. Conventional firepower may not be ineffective. We will only step in when our steel defenses have been breached."
"Understood!" Zheng Weiguo nodded heavily, offering no objections.
Han Ning nodded in agreement.
The order was passed on quickly.
The Awakened Ones, fresh from the bloody battle in the deep sea, rushed toward the No. 3 high ground defensive fortifications set up on the edge of the mountain range, without having time to rest.
The terrain there is high and offers a wide view.
On the slopes and gentle areas of the mountain range facing the ocean, the remnants of the army are making use of the rugged terrain to build a series of deep, tiered defensive formations.
Missile launchers, rocket launchers, tanks... all means of dealing with the enemy were hidden among the mountains.
"Boss... those monsters can even withstand nuclear bombs, can we... really defeat them?" Jiang Yuan gazed into the distance, looking worried.
"I don't know either... Let's just follow Colonel Pang and the others' arrangements for now."
Han Ning didn't know what to say.
If the defense line collapses, they will have no choice but to retreat into the mountains and make further plans.
When Han Ning, Zheng Weiguo, and the survivors from Biyun Gathering Area, Sword of Judgment, Army, Navy Special Forces, and other gathering areas climbed to the high ground, they could take in the distant sea view from their vantage point.
Under the leaden sky, the inky black sea surged violently.
Beyond the mountains, in the vast seas, the remaining human naval forces have been deployed into battle formations.
Leading the pack was that massive Type 550 destroyer.
The ship's angular hull gleamed with a cold, hard gray-blue luster under the gloomy sunlight.
The wind howled and hail fell.
The massive steel warship, like a majestic giant, broke through the water and slowly sailed toward its designated battle position.
On all four decks, multi-purpose vertical launch silos and integrated stealth turrets stand in a formidable array.
Centered on it, eight smaller frigates, like loyal guards, occupied key positions on its flanks and rear, forming a well-organized, defensive arc-shaped line that combined depth and firepower.
All warships' radar and sonar arrays were operating at full speed, and the main guns and close-in weapon systems at the bow were adjusted to the optimal firing angle, firmly locking onto the distant sea surface.
On the deck, the soldiers stood ready, creating a deathly stillness before the storm.
Han Ning felt somewhat uneasy.
He transformed into a star-shaped osprey, soared into the sky, hid in the gloomy sky, and looked down at the distant sea.
Gradually, two blurry black outlines came into view.
Those were two enormous platforms, comparable to moving islands, clearly bombarded by nuclear weapons, resembling wreckage forcibly mixed together from the remains of monster corpses and burnt soil.
The platform surface is uneven, riddled with potholes and protrusions.
On these two slowly moving, charred platforms, countless wriggling, charred figures clung to them.
Chapter 306 Overwhelming Firepower, Firearms vs. Monsters
The atmosphere inside the temporary command post was heavy.
Colonel Pang stared intently at the two approaching pixels on the tactical screen.
They are approaching the mountain defense line from two directions.
"Sonar confirmed that the targets are two large mobile platforms, each with an area roughly equivalent to three 550 destroyers. The surface structure... appears to be composed of high-strength biological tissue and molten minerals, with dense internal life activity!" the scout reported.
Colonel Pang, his face expressionless, grabbed the communicator, and his voice echoed throughout the entire defensive line via the radio system:
"Attention all units, target has entered maximum firing range. Proceed with the pre-arranged plan, saturate fire coverage, open fire!"
The order was like a boulder thrown into a still lake, stirring up ripples.
The first to launch the attack was a rocket artillery group deployed in a mountain gully behind the enemy lines.
The launchers of the PHL-16 370mm rocket launchers deployed by the Army spew out dazzling exhaust flames.
It was accompanied by a series of whooshing sounds.
Dense rockets, trailing long streaks of fire, tore through the sky as they hurtled toward the two massive, charred platforms in the distance.
Immediately afterwards, the Type 05A 155mm self-propelled howitzer group on land also roared, with shells drawing high parabolic arcs, forming a three-dimensional strike network with the rockets.
On the sea, a surface warship formation led by the 550 destroyer opened fire simultaneously.
The main gun on the bow spewed out huge fireballs, and the covers of the vertical launch system opened one after another, sending ship-to-air missiles and anti-ship missiles into the air, complementing the land-based firepower.
In an instant, the distant sea was illuminated as if it were daytime by the continuous bursts of fire from the explosions.
Guided by their guidance systems, the missiles and artillery shells accurately struck the two massive, moving objects.
boom! boom! boom!
The sea was turbulent, with sprays of water shooting into the sky.
Even from a great distance, the deafening sound of the explosion could still be heard like muffled thunder.
Huge holes were blasted into the charred surface of the platform, and shattered debris and twisted limbs of creatures were thrown into the air and fell like raindrops.
Han Ning, Zheng Weiguo, and others watched this scene unfold.
The destructive power of modern weapons is on full display.
However, disturbingly, despite enduring such a violent blow, the two charred platforms, though riddled with holes and significantly reduced in size, did not stop advancing.
After the missile strike, it turned into dozens of fragmented platforms of varying sizes, still burning with flames, like scattered black islands, continuing to surge toward the coastline!
The platform fragments suddenly increased in speed, as if the splitting had released some kind of internal constraint, making their movement trajectory unpredictable.
"Second wave, engage these fragments. Close-in weapon systems ready. Don't let any of them reach the shore!"
Colonel Pang continued to issue orders.
The order was given.
A second wave of missiles and rockets rose into the air, trailing plumes of fire, and crashed into the scattered, charred debris.
Just as the missile barrage was about to hit, the twisted monsters began to move on some of the smaller debris platforms.
Some platforms suddenly cracked open with countless holes, spraying out large amounts of viscous, dark green fluorescent gelatinous substance. This viscous liquid exploded in the air, forming elastic sticky nets.
When the missile crashed into these slimy webs, the explosive force was greatly dispersed, causing it to explode in mid-air.
On other platforms, dark gray smoke rose up, seemingly alive, condensing above the platforms to form a constantly churning shield.
When a rocket hits this smoke shield, it usually only creates a violent ripple before being deflected and detonated, with the shockwave absorbed by the strange smoke.
Some monsters, fearless of death, leaped up and charged directly at the incoming missiles with their bare bodies.
They stretched and twisted their limbs in the air, trying to envelop the warhead.
Some of them erupted with brief but intense energy fluctuations, perishing in mid-air along with the missiles, turning into fireballs that shielded the platform below from fatal blows.
"Report: The target group has developed unknown defense and interception mechanisms, and the missile hit rate has dropped sharply!"
"The small platform is moving too fast and has already broken through the mid-level defense perimeter!"
"Some monsters have detached from the platform and gained the ability to fly short distances or jump to attack!"
Bad news kept coming back to the command center.
Despite the continued fierce firepower and dense barrage of bullets, the monsters' varied and creative counterattacks were largely ineffective.
More than twenty smaller, charred platforms still managed to break through the missile and long-range artillery defenses and enter the effective range of close-in weapon systems.
"Buzz~ hiss hiss hiss~"
The Type 1130 close-in weapon system, deployed at the forefront of the coastline, roars in fury.
Terrifying jets of metal, like the lash of death, lashed fiercely at the approaching platforms.
Tens of thousands of specially designed armor-piercing rounds per minute formed a deathly barrage, engulfing the few fragments at the forefront.
"Puff puff!"
Whether it's slime spray or smoke shield, they all appear incredibly fragile in the face of such a close-range, high-density metal storm.
The charred material on the platform's surface was torn to shreds, and the monsters hidden within were instantly blasted apart, turning into a cloud of blood mist and bits of flesh.
Several smaller platforms that surged the fastest collapsed with a deafening tearing sound and quickly sank into the sea.
Even so, the monster's charge did not stop.
Taking advantage of the brief gap when their companions ahead were destroyed, they accelerated wildly, evading the close-in weapon system's lock-on.
Seeing this, Colonel Pang ripped off the naval officer's uniform draped over his shoulders, revealing the neatly dressed dark blue naval training uniform underneath.
He stretched his neck, his knuckles cracking slightly, then cracked his knuckles, grabbed the communicator microphone, and scanned the faces of everyone in the command post before finally looking toward the high ground.
There, the ability users were already on high alert.
The next second, his voice was transmitted to everyone's ears through the communication network:
"All ability users, move out! Coordinate with firepower units to completely wipe out those monsters."
On the high ground, the ability users, led by Zheng Weiguo and Han Ning, could no longer contain themselves.
Colonel Pang's command was like the sound of a starting gun, unleashing a series of powerful auras.
Dark red arcs of electricity crackled around Zheng Weiguo, and he shot towards the beach like an arrow, roaring, "Sword of Judgment, follow me to stop the enemy!"
"Everyone in the Biyun gathering area, as well as Xuebing, follow Zhao Kai's instructions. I will act independently."
Han Ning, transformed into a Starry Osprey, let out a clear, resonant cry that pierced the clouds. With its wings spread and surrounded by silver light, it moved swiftly and decisively, like a flag guiding the attack, swooping down on the area where the monsters were most concentrated.
"Yes!" "Roar!"
Zhao Kai roared, his body expanding inch by inch as he ran, his rock-like muscles bulging, each step causing the ground to tremble slightly, eventually transforming into a 3.5-meter-tall black-gray giant.
