Chapter 235: The Counterattack of the Void Avatar
Chapter 235: The Counterattack of the Void Avatar
However, the Void Avatar's defensive capabilities were beyond imagination. Its core surface was protected by a barrier woven from rules and nothingness, which neither spears nor flames could harm it in the slightest.
The observer quickly analyzed the battle situation, raised the Star Chart Scepter, and shot blue light toward the barrier of the Void Avatar, where it collided violently with the intertwined energy.
"Its barrier fluctuates periodically!" the observer shouted. "Attack its core at the lowest point of the fluctuation! Otherwise, it's all in vain!"
Leisa and the Arbiter immediately adjusted their attack rhythm, but the Void Avatar's counterattack was even more ferocious. Countless tentacles surged from its body, trapping the three of them tightly at the edge of the temple.
"This thing doesn't want to merge at all; it just wants to destroy everything!" the Arbiter said through gritted teeth.
"Perhaps what it calls integration is destruction," the observer coldly responded.
As the core of the Void Avatar began to manifest, the entire rift region began to undergo a dramatic transformation. Countless dark red energy lines spread out from the depths of the rift, weaving around the guardians like a giant net. The pitch-black void gradually transformed into a twisted labyrinth, and the rift's original desolation was replaced by a deep hum, a sound like the roar of a distant, unknown being, shaking the very souls of everyone present.
"It's trying to take control of this area." The observer's voice was calm, but his eyes betrayed a deep unease. "The power of the Void Avatar is merging the rules with the void, attempting to completely disrupt our offensive rhythm with this power."
"Then shatter it!" The Arbiter brandished his twin blades, his eyes blazing with fighting spirit. "Forget about fusion, we only have one mission—to destroy it!"
As soon as the words left his mouth, a tentacle formed from interwoven rule energy and nothingness shot out swiftly from the darkness in the distance and slammed heavily onto the ground. Wherever the tentacle passed, the original spatial structure instantly collapsed, countless cracks appeared in the ground, and even the flow of energy in the air became abnormally chaotic.
“These tentacles aren’t just a means of attack; they’re eroding the entire area.” The observer waved the Star Chart Scepter, drawing a blue barrier to block the first wave of tentacles, but the barrier’s surface was quickly stained dark red. “Be careful! They can alter the nature of the rules.”
The tentacles' attacks escalated rapidly, their form gradually solidifying from pure energy, their surfaces covered in complex runes. These runes, seemingly regular fragments, emanated a chilling, ethereal aura. A tentacle lashed down from the sky, aimed directly at the Arbiter. He hastily parried with his twin blades, but at the instant of contact, a portion of the flames on his blades was absorbed by the tentacle, and the flames changed from bright red to dark red.
"It's devouring my power!" The Arbiter gritted his teeth and slashed off the tentacle, but more tentacles surged in from all directions, tightly surrounding him.
Lysa was also fighting back with all her might. Her spear danced, drawing golden arcs of light, each attack severing tentacles. But these tentacles seemed endless, rapidly regenerating after being severed, even growing thicker and stronger. The power of the Void Avatar was eroding their strength and will through these tentacles.
The observer attempted to use the power of the star chart to decipher the runes on the tentacles, but whenever his blue light touched the tentacles, the runes would immediately rearrange and generate new attack patterns.
“It’s learning our power!” The observer’s voice betrayed anxiety. “With each contact, it grows stronger!”
The aftershocks of the battle spread to the temple at the core of the rift, and the runic stone tablets floating in the air began to crumble one by one. The light on the runes transformed into illusory figures, floating in the air like an ancient scroll slowly unfolding.
As Leisa fought, he looked up at the phantoms and asked, "What are those?"
The observer glanced at it quickly and immediately understood its meaning: "That's a record of the origins of rules and nothingness!"
The illusory images depict scenes from the beginning of the universe: In the beginning, rules and nothingness were one, jointly maintaining the universe's balance. But as the rules expanded, nothingness was gradually marginalized, eventually compressed into a narrow dimension. The nothingness's anger arose from this; it attempted to return to the universe and reclaim its rightful balance.
"The purpose of the Void Avatar is not simply destruction; it wants to redefine the rules of the universe." The Observer's voice was filled with complex emotions. "But its methods will only plunge the entire universe into chaos."
The adjudicator sneered disdainfully: "Whatever it wants to do, if it stands in our way, it shall die!"
Just then, a chilling aura emanated from the crack. A beam of icy blue light pierced the darkness, and a figure slowly emerged from a distant portal. She was covered in armor as cold as ice, and every step she took was accompanied by a biting wind.
"Sophia?" Leisa exclaimed, somewhat surprised.
“It seems your situation is worse than I imagined,” Sophia said coldly. She raised her hands, and an icy blue barrier instantly enveloped the three of them, freezing some of the tentacles.
Immediately afterwards, a burst of blazing flames surged from the other side of the rift, and Kane's unrestrained figure appeared, followed by several members of the Guardian Alliance.
"You guys actually managed to hold out this long, I'm really impressed." Kane said with a light laugh, waving his hands and two fiery whirlwinds tore the tentacles to shreds. "But the battle that follows will definitely be even more interesting."
The observer, watching the reinforcements arrive, felt somewhat relieved but remained highly vigilant: "Thank you for your support, but don't forget, the power of the Void Avatar is growing stronger. This isn't a problem that can be solved by luck."
"Enough with the nonsense." Sophia glanced at the observer with a cold look. "I'm not here to listen to your reasoning, but to end this chaos."
Kane scoffed: "Whatever, as long as I can have a good fight, I don't care."
Although the arrival of reinforcements from the Guardians eased the situation somewhat, internal conflicts also surfaced. Sophia and Kane had drastically different strategies for dealing with the Void Avatar; the former believed in calmly analyzing the situation and identifying the key weaknesses of the rift, while the latter preferred to directly destroy all obstacles.
"This discussion is pointless!" the Arbiter said angrily. "The Void Avatar won't give us time to argue. No matter what you think, in the end, we'll have to resolve this with strength."
Lysa tried to reconcile the two sides, but Sofia and Kane stuck to their own opinions, and even the observers' persuasion was ineffective.
"Enough!" Lysa finally snapped, swinging his spear to shatter a tentacle completely. "If we continue like this, the Void Avatar is destined to win!"
Just as the guardians were arguing briefly, the core of the Void Avatar began to release a powerful shockwave. This energy spread at an extremely rapid speed, destroying all the surrounding barriers and forcing the guardians to retreat.
