The beam of light shone again.
"Hehehe! Which Master summoned me? I, Blackbeard Edward Teach, have come to report... Awooo!"
A middle-aged man wearing a captain's hat and with a sleazy appearance had just appeared when Er Kang delivered a precise flying kick to his face, sending him screaming as he fell back into the depths of the light.
"Not you either! Your ability to hide is practically nonexistent! Next!"
The light shone for the third time, this time with an exceptionally eerie, ancient, and heavy aura.
"No need to be afraid, contractor, old man of the mountain, appear here as summoned."
A tall, imposing old man wearing a skull mask slowly appeared, his voice low and menacing.
"Grandpa! You've wandered onto the wrong set! I don't need an assassin like you, a military-grade weapon! Huh??? Where's my head?!"
Erkang was about to push Wang Hassan back when he suddenly realized that his head was completely empty above his neck! And Wang Hassan was holding his head in his hand!
"Contractor, you have been rude."
After calmly finishing speaking, Wang Hassan shoved his head back onto Er Kang's neck.
Er Kang hurriedly fixed the head and quickly invited the patriarch back as well: "I'm so sorry! Please take care!"
The beam of light lit up for the fourth time, but it seemed to be flickering and weak.
"Um... with us, the Shadows, by your side, we will surely win for you. Rest assured, Master..."
Hassan appeared in the pillar of light, looking somewhat uncertain and bewildered by the chaotic scene before him.
"No—! You've come at the perfect time!!!"
Er Kang's eyes lit up with a light as if he had found a savior, and he rushed forward to tightly grasp Bai Mao Hassan's hand.
"It's you! Hassan the Hundred-Faced! My assassin squad!"
Hassan tilted his head, his expression behind the mask filled with bewilderment: "Huh???"
Everyone: "..."
Qingyu: "Did he just push the old man away?"
Gu Qian: "It seems so..."
Zhang Chu: "I want to hit someone..."
Chapter 105 Assassination
That's the situation, understand?
Zhang Chu casually kicked Er Kang, who was bruised and swollen and writhing on the ground, aside like trash, and then spoke to the mature woman in front of him with long purple hair, dark skin, and a lithe figure—the most common individual, Bai Mao Hassan.
“Master… uh, Acting Master.”
Hassan looked at the pitiful state of his former Master on the ground, then at the several Hilichurls with such different appearances in front of him, and sighed helplessly.
"That's a bit... asking Hassan a lot of trouble."
She counted on her fingers, her beautiful face filled with struggle: "Although we are called 'Hundred Faces,' in reality, including myself, there are only ninety-nine individuals who can reliably maintain independent action. But you want us to keep an eye on and deal with a full eight hundred and seventy-three targets? The disparity is too great..."
(Note: Hassan of a Hundred Faces does not have a single, strictly defined entity; all ninety-nine individuals are entities. However, she is most often depicted in the game as this purple-haired mature woman, and she will be the primary person to be dealt with here.)
"You don't have to worry about that."
Qingyu stepped forward and patted Baimao on the shoulder.
The latter stiffened slightly and almost retaliated out of assassin's instinct.
“You don’t need to deal with all the targets at once. You can start now, prioritizing the assassination of those who are alone or in remote locations. Reduce their numbers, create panic, and throw them into disarray.”
"I see, so it's a phased, piecemeal approach?"
The helplessness in Bai Mao Hassan's eyes was instantly replaced by a professional gleam, and she nodded slightly.
"If that's all there is to it, then there's no problem. Please rest assured and leave it to us! Stealth and assassination are our specialties."
As soon as she finished speaking, without even making any obvious movement, her figure blurred and disappeared from everyone's sight as if she had never existed, as if she had blended into the shadows.
Only a faint, almost imperceptible scent of dry dust remained in the air, a testament to her presence.
"Wow...that speed is even faster than Clorind's, right?"
Gu Qian rubbed his eyes sheepishly and let out a heartfelt sigh.
"After all, it's the Assassin class."
Zhang Chu crossed his arms and explained, seemingly unsurprised.
"Among the seven regular classes, the basic stats are usually the worst. If even stealth and speed aren't fast enough, then you really have no presence."
"Alright, alright, stop with the science explanation."
"Bai Mao and his group have already taken action. We should head into the city now. We also need to inform Commander Qin and the others."
"You're right, let's go."
Qingyu nodded, then turned his gaze to the wolf king who was standing quietly to the side.
The Wolf King understood, and its massive body once again emitted a clanging mechanical sound as it quickly transformed into a twenty-meter-tall silver-white Gundam.
Everyone skillfully took their positions, and as the thrusters ignited, the massive mechs carried them into the sky, flying towards Mondstadt.
Shortly after they left, the summoning circle on the grass, drawn with Er Kang's blood (?), had completely lost its light.
However, at the very center of the formation, the air distorted almost imperceptibly, and a pair of white lights, ancient and calm like deep pools in a secluded valley, yet containing ultimate majesty, flashed by like slowly opening eyes.
There was nothing there, yet it seemed as if an invisible, enormous figure had once stood silently, watching everything, including the ninety-nine assassin clones that spread out like a spider web and quietly infiltrated Mondstadt.
(???: ... (silent gaze.jpg))
------
At the gates of Mondstadt, a massive, silver-white Gundam hovered dozens of meters above the ground, its hatch sliding open silently.
To avoid causing panic, the four-person group, along with Luminous and Paimon, chose to enter the city discreetly. Wolf King, on the other hand, once again entered stealth mode, hovering above Mondstadt like a silent guardian, continuing to monitor the entire city.
As soon as they stepped through the city gate, they sensed an unusual atmosphere.
The streets were still bustling with pedestrians and the cries of vendors never ceased, but upon closer inspection, one could see that some of the "pedestrians" moved somewhat stiffly, and their eyes occasionally flashed with an inhuman emptiness—clearly, these were imposters who had not yet been cleared out.
"Tsk, they really are everywhere."
Qingyu lowered his voice; in the vision of his high-tech mask, the red dot representing the fake was still moving.
"Go to the Knights and find Commander Jean first."
Ying suggested it, and everyone nodded in agreement.
Just as they were passing through a narrow alley, preparing to take a shortcut to the Knights' headquarters, a commotion suddenly broke out around the corner ahead.
A Knight of the West was seen leading a merchant who was tightly bound and had a rag stuffed in his mouth.
The "merchant" looked terrified and struggled, whimpering.
"Stop! What are you doing?"
Paimon stepped forward, hands on his hips, and questioned him.
When the Knight of Favonius saw Luminous and Paimon, he immediately gave a standard, slightly stiff smile: "Honorable Knight, Paimon, greetings. This merchant is acting suspiciously. I suspect he is a dangerous element who has infiltrated the city, and I am preparing to take him in for interrogation."
Ying and Paimon exchanged a glance. Wearing the glasses modified by the Wolf King, they could clearly see the "Knight of Favonius" flashing a blinding red light, while the bound "merchant" had a normal green mark.
"Really?"
Zhang Chu stepped forward and looked at the "Knight of the West" with great interest.
"I find you more suspicious."
The Knight of Favonius's expression changed slightly, but he still tried to remain calm: "This... Mr. Hilichurl, please do not interfere with the Knights' official duties!"
As soon as he finished speaking, everyone felt a blur before their eyes!
A purple figure descended silently from the shadows of the nearby rooftop, appearing without a sound behind the Knight of Favonius.
A flash of cold light—
A soft, sharp sound of a blade piercing flesh.
The Knight of Favonius froze abruptly, the light in his eyes dimmed rapidly, and his body began to twist and deform, eventually turning into a pool of black, ominous, muddy substance before slowly dissipating.
The purple-haired, mature woman in her Hundred-Faced Hassan flicked away non-existent stains from her short sword and nodded slightly to the dumbfounded "merchant": "I apologize for startling you. The imposter has been eliminated."
After she finished speaking, she didn't even look at the crowd, and her figure disappeared again as if it had merged into the air, leaving only the untied and still-shaken real merchant, as well as Ying, Paimon and the four of them looking at each other in bewilderment.
"...That's really efficient."
Gu Qian gave his evaluation in a deep, muffled voice.
"And...he's quite polite?"
Paimon scratched his head.
Er Kang weakly raised his head and smugly hummed, "See...see! I told you...summoning them...it was definitely the right thing to do..."
Zhang Chu smacked him on the head in annoyance: "Shut up! If you hadn't summoned them randomly, we might be sitting in the Knights Order drinking tea right now!"
They continued on their way, witnessing the "work" of the Hundred-Faced Hassans several more times:
A "resident" who was trying to buy something with a fake Mora at a fruit stand was pulled under the stand by a hand that suddenly reached out. A moment later, the real stand owner crawled out from under the stand looking bewildered, scratching his head and wondering how he had fallen asleep.
A "nun" trying to sneak into the West Wind Cathedral was bumped on the steps by a "tourist" who "accidentally" slipped and fell to the ground. She then turned into black mud and disappeared, while the "tourist" casually dusted off his clothes and walked away, blending into the crowd.
There was even an imposter posing as a bard who, just as he plucked the strings, was struck precisely on the back of the neck by a small pebble that flew from nowhere, knocking him unconscious without a sound. He was then quickly dragged away by two "helpful citizens"...
The Hundred-Faced Hassans, like invisible ghosts, roam the streets of Mondstadt, silently eliminating their targets with remarkable efficiency and professionalism.
Their actions were precise and swift, and minimized disruption and panic among the general public.
"It seems... we don't need to get involved here for the time being."
Qingyu breathed a sigh of relief as he watched the red dots gradually decrease in his field of vision.
"But we still need to explain the situation to Commander Qin to avoid any misunderstandings within the Knights."
When they finally arrived at the headquarters of the Knights of Favonius, they found Acting Grand Master Jean, Cavalry Captain Kaeya, and Librarian Lisa standing at the entrance, their expressions somewhat solemn and... confused.
"Honorary Knight, and these... Hilichurl friends."
