Chapter 84: Give me a slave?
Chapter 84: Give me a slave?
Mercus handed two large seashells to Lucas, and the seashells opened gently.
She repeated something, but Lucas couldn't understand it. He could only make out the contents of the shell.
On the left, there were three dark green clumps, which looked like a bunch of twisted, slippery rat tails.
On the right is a long, gray stone whistle.
What is this?
Ellie, Hannah, and Harry all crowded around to see, but none of them understood what it was.
Mercus let out a shriek and handed the shell to Lucas, gently pushing it with both hands, clearly wanting Lucas to accept it.
Is this a gift from the mermaid because she was happy with my sashimi? Or perhaps a tip?
Fox barked on Lucas's shoulder, but Lucas didn't understand what it meant.
Mercus urged for delivery again, so Lucas took the two shells.
Since it's a kind gesture from the guests, as the head chef, I can't refuse.
"Thank you very much," Lucas said.
When Mercus saw that Lucas had accepted the two seashells, he shrieked with great excitement, and whirlpools roared around him. The mermaids were also very happy and splashed water in response.
What a hospitable guest!
Lucas smiled happily, feeling very satisfied to have their approval.
But whether it was his imagination or not, Lucas thought he heard Fox on his shoulder let out a soft sigh.
Mercus grinned, but the smile looked particularly terrifying on her ferocious face. She pointed to the "clump of rat tails" inside the shell, then to Lucas's mouth, as if gesturing for Lucas to eat them.
Lucas hesitated, and Ellie whispered, "Lucas, I think it's best not to eat them. Even if the mermaids don't mean any harm, their food might not be suitable for humans."
Lucas thought so too, but when Merkus saw that Lucas was unwilling to eat it, he pointed to the stone whistle inside the shell and gestured for Lucas to try blowing it.
The guests were so kind and hospitable that I couldn't bear to refuse them repeatedly. And with Fox watching over me, it was impossible for me to die just because I blew this whistle.
With that thought in mind, Lucas finally picked up the cold stone whistle and blew it gently.
A sharp whistle rang out over the Black Lake, much like the scream of a mermaid.
In that instant, Lucas suddenly sensed that something underwater had established some kind of magical connection with him.
And that thing, summoned by the whistle, is swimming rapidly toward him!
Less than half a minute later, water splashed up and a figure rushed out of the water and clung to the outside of the boat.
"Water ghost!" Hannah screamed, nearly falling overboard, but Ellie caught her just in time.
Under the moonlight, everyone could clearly see the monster's figure.
It was about the size of an ape, with sickly pale green skin, small horns on its head, and a ferocious appearance. Noticing Lucas's gaze, it grinned, its pale eyes wide open, revealing a mouthful of tiny, sharp teeth.
What is particularly striking are its fingers clinging to the ship's side, each one unusually long and with remarkably flexible joints. Its fingers possess immense strength, gripping the wooden ship's side like iron pincers, causing it to creak and groan.
"It's a water ghost, Grindelwald!" Hannah exclaimed in terror. "I've heard so many terrifying stories about it since I was a child. It grabs people by the ankles, drags them into the water, and then strangles them to death!"
"When I was little, whenever I wanted to play in the water, my mom would tell me there was Grindelwald in the water..."
It seems that Hannah's mother's attempt to scare her was very effective, leaving Hannah with psychological trauma.
And now, the mermaid leader has given a Grindylo to Lucas!
Lucas could sense that, with the help of this stone whistle, he could control Grindelwald to do anything.
From then on, this Grindylo became Lucas's pet, or even slave!
Lucas has acquired a water ghost slave!
Lucas sized up the fierce-looking but docile Grindelwald, recalling the description in "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them".
Classified as a Level XX magical creature, where Level XX signifies harmless or tamable. However, Grindylow is actually quite ferocious and highly aggressive; in terms of attack power, classifying it as a Level XXX is perfectly reasonable!
It is classified as XX level simply because they can be tamed by merfolk.
"I'd heard that the mermaids in the Black Lake had tamed many Grindylo, and it's true!" Hagrid exclaimed in surprise, then his voice filled with envy, "That's wonderful, Lucas! Mercus gave you this Grindylo, look at it, what a beautiful little thing..."
Harry couldn't help but whisper, "When did Hagrid go blind?"
This thing is terrifying to look at, especially since it always stares with its wide, pale eyes, looking menacingly at people's necks, giving you goosebumps all over.
What's so pretty about it?
Lucas fiddled with the whistle, and in that short time, he had already thought of all sorts of ways to use the Greendylo.
At its simplest, it can help me catch fish!
I was just telling Ellie and the others that it's hard to find such a big fish, but with this Greendylo, it'll be much easier to catch fish, right?
"Thank you, Lord Mercus," Lucas said again, carefully placing the stone whistle close to his body.
Mercus nodded happily, then let out a low whistle.
With a unified cheer, all the mermaids simultaneously dived into the water and disappeared without a trace.
When the ripples subsided, the entire Black Lake returned to its mirror-like smoothness, with only the Grindelwald clinging to the gunwale proving that everything that had just happened was not an illusion.
Fox let out a melodious cry, and then the crimson phoenix soared into the sky, transforming into a streak of fire that streaked across the heavens before suddenly disappearing.
"Incredible, Lucas..." Hagrid gazed at the lake and waved his hand. "Alright, kids, let's hurry up. We've already wasted too much time! Don't keep the professors waiting."
The small boat started moving again, speeding towards the magnificent magic castle. Beside Lucas's boat, the pale green Grindelwald swam swiftly, following its new master in the water.
The small boat passed through the ivy covering the cliffs, entered a hidden, open entrance, and then followed the dark waterway to the castle's underground, where it stopped at an underground dock.
Everyone began to disembark. Lucas thought for a moment, then blew his whistle again, instructing Grindelwald to remain in the Black Lake for the time being. The water sprite turned and disappeared beneath the surface.
The children followed Hagrid into the tunnel inside the mountain, chattering about what had just happened and boasting about how brave they were in front of the mermaid.
Neville, holding Rafer, squeezed next to Lucas, saying with admiration, "Lucas, you're so cool."
Lucas was incredibly brave to face so many ferocious mermaids with composure, even winning them over with his amazing culinary skills and receiving a gift from the mermaid leader.
I wish I could be like him; I want to be braver too.
They climbed uphill through the mountainside and finally arrived at a damp, flat meadow. Lucas was pleasantly surprised; this was the very place where he had first met Ellie's father and Hagrid!
Looking up again, sure enough, the castle's massive oak door was right in front of me.
Now, the door is wide open, and a figure is standing in front of it.
