This enormous torso had no legs; its lower body had been severed, replaced by a tangled mass of complex supports and hydraulic pipes gleaming with a cold metallic sheen, anchored deep to the bottom of the container like tree roots. Its arms were reduced to short, fleshy stumps, densely covered with various metal probes that shimmered with a faint red light, resembling a worn-out sewing kit.
The most terrifying thing is its head.
The head was completely disproportionate to the enormous body, like a deformed tumor inflated to its limit. It had no hair, no eyes, no nose, no ears, only a huge mouth that looked as if it had been forcibly ripped open by an axe, opening silently and desperately, as if uttering an eternal and mournful wail to the world.
Chu Hang felt a churning in his stomach and a burning sensation in his throat. He bit his lip hard to keep himself from vomiting on the spot.
What the hell is this thing?!
This is Hydra's secret? This is Red Skull's trump card? They actually secretly created this biological weapon, stitched together from flesh and machine, deep underground in these mountains?
If this thing were released, let alone a division, even an army might not be able to stop it! It's simply a slaughter machine that crawled out of hell!
The movie never mentioned this thing! Did I, this little butterfly, accidentally flap my wings and send the whole plot a hundred and eight thousand miles away?
Just as Chu Hang's mind went blank from being stunned by the terrifying scene before him, his vision, enhanced to the extreme by the super soldier serum, allowed him to catch a detail that had been overlooked.
Deep within the laboratory, on a main control panel surrounding a container, a row of glaring red alarm lights were flashing wildly at an extremely high frequency. Beside the alarm lights, a large LCD screen displayed a line of bright red numbers that were constantly decreasing in value.

Oh no! They're counting down!
Chu Hang's heart sank, a sense of crisis even stronger than when he first saw the monster instantly sweeping through his body. Judging from the situation, these Hydra's mad scientists were clearly about to perform some crucial operation on the monster. Were they going to activate it? Or destroy it?
Neither of these scenarios is good news! In three minutes, something earth-shattering will happen here!
"Captain!" Chu Hang whirled around, grabbed Steve's arm—who was still in a trance-like state—and shook him with all his might. "Wake up! Something's wrong! Something very wrong!"
The sudden jolt seemed to bring Steve back to his senses from the immense shock. He gasped sharply, his eyes refocusing, but a deep sense of horror still lingered within them.
"what happened?"
"They're counting down!" Chu Hang pointed at the heavy metal door, speaking rapidly like a machine gun. "I saw a countdown inside, less than three minutes left! They're definitely going to do something to that monster! We have to stop them!"
Steve's face instantly turned extremely pale. He suppressed his nausea again, quickly glanced at the observation window, and immediately understood the seriousness of the situation.
"Damn it!" he cursed under his breath, his voice filled with anxiety and anger. "We have to get in right now!"
How can they get in? This door looks even sturdier than a bank vault door. With just the two of them, let alone three minutes, even thirty minutes might not be enough to open it.
Just as the two were frantically trying to come up with a solution, something unexpected happened.
"Woo-wu-wu-"
A sharp, piercing alarm, loud enough to shatter eardrums, suddenly blared from the laboratory behind the door, echoing throughout the entire underground space!
Chu Hang and Steve exchanged a glance, both seeing deep shock and bewilderment in each other's eyes.
Something's happened! It wasn't them who caused the trouble; something happened inside the lab!
The two of them simultaneously huddled together at the observation window again, only to find that the once orderly laboratory was now in complete chaos. The scientists in their white protective suits were like a swarm of wasps whose nest had been disturbed, running around aimlessly. Several control panels were sparking and billowing black smoke due to operational errors.
The giant monster submerged in the green liquid seemed to have been strongly stimulated and began to struggle wildly with unprecedented force!
Its massive body twisted and thrashed violently inside the container, each impact causing the heavy, special glass container to groan under the strain. Visible, spiderweb-like, pale cracks began to appear on the container's surface!
"Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom!"
The enormous, exposed heart was beating at least twice as fast as before! The heavy, rapid thumping sound was like a death knell on a battlefield, pounding wildly in their eardrums, making them feel as if their own hearts were about to burst.
Something even more terrible happened.
The round metal door they thought was indestructible suddenly emitted a heavy and clear "click".
Immediately afterwards, the lock cylinders around the door, as thick as bowls and resembling giant gears, began to slowly retract into the wall one by one, accompanied by a hissing sound of hydraulic pressure deflating!
The door... is about to open!
Chu Hang's mind went blank for a moment, as if it had gone completely empty.
He understood. It was the group of terrified scientists inside who had opened the door from the inside in order to save their own lives!
Steve's reaction was faster than human limits. Without the slightest hesitation, he grabbed the still-stunned Chu Hang and turned to sprint back down the corridor they had come from!
At that moment, all thoughts of stopping the monster and completing the mission vanished from his mind. Only one primal thought remained: survival! Once that door opened, they would face a group of scientists driven utterly mad by their will to live, and a terrifying monster that could break free at any moment—a monster even he had no confidence in fighting!
The two pushed the speed granted by the Super Soldier Serum to its limit, almost becoming two blurry afterimages in the narrow metal corridor.
"Creak--"
Behind them, the massive metal door, weighing tens of tons, began to slowly open inwards, emitting a metallic scraping sound that made one's teeth ache.
A blinding white light and an even stronger, more nauseating stench gushed out from the crack in the door like a flood bursting its banks!
"Quick! Get back to the power distribution room!" Steve yelled at Chu Hang as he ran. "Notify Logan to execute Plan B! Now!"
Dragged along by him, Chu Hang stumbled and staggered, not even daring to look back. He could only place all his hopes on his extremely enhanced ears to judge what was behind him.
He could hear the terrified screams, curses, and scuffles of scientists scrambling for the exit, as they surged toward it like a tide.
However, beneath this chaotic noise, there was a sound that sent chills down his spine even further.
"Crack-click-"
It was a sound that was both incredibly crisp and incredibly heavy.
That was the sound of glass being completely shattered and bursting!
Then came the sound of a tsunami of liquid gushing out and crashing heavily onto the floor!
Then... all sounds went silent for a moment.
Only that sound continues to echo.
"Boom...boom...boom..."
That tremendous heartbeat still echoes.
But this time, the sound was no longer the dull, muffled sound transmitted through liquid and glass. It became incredibly clear, incredibly real, and full of wild, violent power.
It's as if... that enormous heart has been completely exposed to the air!
Chu Hang's pupils instantly shrank to the size of pinpoints.
As he ran for his life, he used all his strength to let out a heart-wrenching scream filled with endless fear at the blue figure running ahead of him.
"It's out! It's following us!"
Chapter 30 Run! Run for your life!
Chu Hang had never run so fast in his entire life.
In his past life, being chased by his boss for a proposal at work didn't happen this fast; jaywalking and almost getting hit by a car didn't happen this fast either. Chu Hang felt like his legs no longer belonged to him; they were like two tiny motors, their only command being to rush forward, to rush forward with all their might.
The wind whistled in his ears, but he couldn't hear anything. No, he could hear it, and he understood it better than anyone else.
He could hear the rapid, pounding sound of Steve's boots on the metal floor as he dragged him along, a sound as urgent as a death march. He could hear his own heart pounding wildly in his chest, feeling like it was about to leap out of his throat.
But what he heard most clearly was the sound coming from behind him.
That was a voice he never wanted to hear again in his life.
"Hiss... splash... thud..."
It was a symphony of sounds, a blend that sent chills down your spine. There was the sound of some heavy, slippery flesh being dragged across a metal floor, like a butcher pulling a freshly slaughtered whale; there was the grating noise of countless tiny metal parts and pipes scraping against the ground as they couldn't support the immense weight; and then there was... the sound of a heartbeat.
"Boom...boom...boom..."
It caught up!
That damned thing, that monster stitched together from flesh and machine, really came out of the lab and is chasing them!
Chu Hang didn't even need to turn around. With his enhanced hearing alone, he could conjure up an incredibly terrifying image in his mind: a huge, legless lump of flesh, using the messy metal supports of its lower body as legs, like a deformed giant spider, was crawling towards them in the narrow corridor at a speed completely disproportionate to its enormous size!
Chu Hang cursed inwardly: This thing can not only move, but it can also chase people? What kind of thing did those bastards from Hydra create!
"Quick! A ladder!"
Steve's voice rang out from ahead, like a thunderclap, jolting Chu Hang awake from his boundless fear.
He then realized that they had rushed to the end of the corridor, and the vertical ladder leading to the upper electrical room was right in front of them.
Without the slightest hesitation or even slowing down, Steve shoved Chu Hang in the back at the last moment before reaching the ladder, yelling, "You go first!"
Then, he whirled around, facing the direction they had come from, and held the vibranium shield tightly in front of him. He actually wanted to single-handedly hold off the pursuing monster and buy Chu Hang time to climb up!
"Captain!" Chu Hang's eyes turned red.
"Stop talking nonsense! Hurry up!" Steve roared without turning his head, his voice carrying an unquestionable command. "Go up and tell Logan! Plan B!"
Chu Hang felt a sharp pang in his heart. He knew that at this moment, any hesitation would be a betrayal of Steve's trust. He gritted his teeth, stopped thinking, and frantically climbed the ladder, using both hands and feet.
Chu Hang had never thought that the ladder, which was only a few meters long, was so long.
He could feel the entire corridor beneath his feet trembling slightly; the monster was getting closer and closer! He could even smell the suffocating stench of blood and formaldehyde surging wildly upwards from the entrance he had climbed up.
"Steve!" Chu Hang couldn't help but look back halfway up the mountain.
In that instant, he saw a huge black shadow, a mixture of pale flesh and cold metal, almost filling the entire entrance to the corridor, lunging towards Steve's not-so-tall blue figure!
There was a deafening bang.
Chu Hang felt the entire metal platform shake violently. That was the sound of Steve using his shield to withstand one of the monster's impacts.
"I'm fine! Go up quickly!" Steve's voice sounded a little muffled, but it was still steady.
Chu Hang dared not look any longer. With all his might, he climbed the remaining distance in a few quick movements and rolled into the power distribution room.
"what happened?"
Logan's hoarse voice rang out immediately. He had been waiting by the entrance for a while, and seeing Chu Hang's panicked state and smelling the strange odor coming from below, his expression became extremely serious, and he gripped the two grenades in his hands tightly.
"There are monsters down below...down below!" Chu Hang shouted breathlessly. "Captain, hold them off down there! Plan B! Quick! Execute Plan B!"
Logan's pupils contracted sharply, and without saying a word, he turned and rushed towards the two huge transformers.
But at this moment, a sudden change occurred!
With a loud bang, the metal cover beneath their feet, the entrance they had just climbed up, was slammed hard from below by an unimaginable force, causing the entire cover to bulge upwards!
Immediately afterwards, a pale white tentacle, thicker than Chu Hang's thigh and covered with barbs and metal plates, shot out from the gap that had been smashed open, like a venomous snake crawling out of hell, heading straight for Logan's back, who was closest to it!
"Watch out!" Chu Hang shouted hoarsely.
