Chapter 14 The Mad Mist Deer
Chapter 14 The Mad Mist Deer
Fiona stepped forward and pointed to the far distance.
Lin Qi looked up and saw the Chosen Swordsman's bright red hair fluttering in the wind. Even after fighting in the dungeon for many days, he could still faintly smell a fragrance. Her beautiful profile was full of joy at seeing the light of day again.
It's kind of pretty.
Lin Qi was momentarily stunned.
Seeing that Lynch didn't react for a while, Fiona turned around and found the black-haired guy staring blankly at her.
She frowned.
"Are you so happy you're going crazy?"
"Oh, it's nothing. Silverleaf Town, is that the adventurer's town next to the Misty Forest on the map?"
"Yes."
"So we're in the Misty Forest now?"
"It should be the outer area, inside the Misty Forest. My grandfather was also very wary of it, saying that there were unknown remnants of the ancient era there, which even legendary dragons avoided."
Lynch nodded.
Like a prisoner who has just been released from jail, he just wanted to breathe more fresh air.
"There shouldn't be any particularly powerful magical beasts on the outskirts."
Fiona straightened her tattered armor, gripped her longsword, and took the lead in walking forward. "If we walk for another three days, we should be able to find a post station. Then we can hire a carriage and get to Silverleaf Town much faster."
Fiona glanced back at the exit of the underground world the two had emerged from, a hint of hesitation flashing in her eyes: "Should we blow this place up?"
She pulled out a gold bomb and gestured to it.
Lin Qi pondered for a moment, then shook his head.
"Alright, I've memorized this place. Next time I'll bring some help, and that annoying goblin warrior will definitely be slain!"
"Let's go."
The two proceeded cautiously.
On the evening of the third day, as the sun set and the fog in the forest gradually thickened, just as the two were about to exhaust themselves, a simple yet well-maintained post station suddenly appeared in the distance, with wisps of smoke rising from its chimneys, and they could vaguely see merchants and adventurers coming and going.
"We've finally arrived!"
Fiona breathed a sigh of relief, her nerves, which had been tense for many days, completely relaxed. Her steps became lighter, and a long-lost smile appeared on her face.
But her smile quickly faded.
"What? You didn't bring any money???"
Lynch and Fiona walked out of the station.
Having trekked a long way out of the underground, and with her injuries not yet fully healed, the girl's face was still pale, her breath slightly weak, and she was now somewhat dejected.
"Why would I carry money? I don't usually spend money."
"Members of the Temple of Fairness can usually get supplies for free at various branch temples."
The girl felt she hadn't done anything wrong and muttered to herself.
"If you're not going to spend any money, why are you signing a contract with me that costs 100,000 gold coins?"
"Knowing you can't pay me back, you're just trying to get a servant."
"Fine, fine," Lin Qi laughed in exasperation. "This brat thinks she can take me for granted."
"What should we do? It's still a long way to Silverleaf Town."
The heavily injured chosen swordsman and the dejected forgotten god, both of them hanging their heads in dejection, looked like two runaway teenagers sitting by the roadside, lost in thought, trying to regain their strength.
Fiona had considered selling some of her belongings to passersby, but Lynch stopped her. The two of them were in very poor condition, and it would be troublesome if they encountered someone who was greedy for money.
gudu~
Fiona's stomach rumbled first.
Are you hungry?
Lynch took out the goblin food from the package, and Fiona glanced at it and made a vomiting face.
"If goblins weren't humanoid, I really think..."
Lynch shrugged.
"It's better to eat bad food than to starve. Their cooking skills are just a bit lacking, but the ingredients for the underground bread are alright."
"I have an idea."
Fiona rested her chin on her hand for a long time, then suddenly became beaming.
A moment later.
The two reappeared on the outskirts of the Misty Forest and slowly moved forward.
This forest is home to a creature with an exceptionally wide distribution called the Mist Giant Deer. It is powerful, gentle, and one of the most popular mounts in the duchy.
Fiona's solution was to catch a dog for transportation.
As for how to catch her, Fiona seemed confident.
Because there were so many Misty Deer, the two encountered quite a few on their way back.
After walking for about half a day, both of them were quite tired when a low whimpering sound suddenly came from ahead.
Fiona stopped abruptly, her expression hardening. She slightly drew her longsword and looked warily toward the source of the sound: "Be careful, there's movement."
Lin Qi had already been alerted by the system.
[Warning: A monster is approaching]
Their eyes simultaneously swept across the bushes on the right, where a massive deer slowly emerged. Its body was covered in snow-white fur, its antlers were thick and forked, and its eyes were clear and gentle.
"The Giant Deer of the Misty Forest"
"It really is it."
Fiona's eyes lit up, and she sheathed her sword.
"This guy has a very docile temperament. Don't be fooled by the fact that it's a high-ranking magical beast. As long as you don't kill it, you'll be fine. You can even pet it."
But when Lin Qi looked at the deer, he saw that it wasn't in good condition; it was walking with a limp.
Fiona made a "yo-yo-yo" sound, and the Mist Giant Deer responded softly, actually moving closer on its own initiative. Fiona's fair little hands gently stroked the magical beast, which was twice her height, and her eyes narrowed into crescent moons.
"Now we..."
"This deer is injured."
Fiona was interrupted by Lynch, who pointed to the giant deer's right hind leg, which was already a bloody mess.
A fist-sized hole, the surrounding flesh was black and rotten.
[Race: Mist Deer]
[Attributes: Strength 30, Stamina 60, Intelligence 10, Spirit 10, Agility 150-100]
[Note: A low-level magical beast corrupted by a mysterious force]
The system notification will arrive at the appropriate time.
A monster with 150 agility? Lin Qi clicked his tongue in amazement. This was too outrageous.
However, the opponent's agility panel is -100. Is this because they were injured?
Mysterious power?
Lin Qi didn't quite understand what it meant. Judging from the deer's appearance, it was already struggling to stand. While Fiona was still stroking it, it simply lay down on its side and let out a mournful cry.
Fiona let out a few "yoyoyoyo" sounds, her expression somewhat grave, and said, "This poor fellow is no good."
This girl actually understands animal language?
Lin Qi suddenly realized that the world is full of wonders.
Cautiously observing the giant deer that was already on its last legs, and realizing there was nothing more that could be done, he pulled the sighing Fiona away.
"Let's find the next one."
We walked for a while.
A prompt suddenly appeared in Lin Qi's mind.
[Warning: The Mist Deer has gone out of control, be careful to dodge!]
What the hell?
"Fiona, watch out!"
Fiona turned her head, as if to say something, but Lynch had already pushed her aside.
And the place where the two were a moment ago.
The giant deer, which should have been gentle and never attacked humans according to her, now had bloodshot eyes, drool at the corners of its mouth, and a faint purple mist swirling around its body. It descended from the sky in a bizarre manner, its head hitting the ground and creating a large crater.
The enormous antlers, due to Lynch's reaction, slammed directly into the ground, splashing up a lot of dirt and breaking off in half.
The giant deer seemed to feel no pain at all. It slowly stood up, pawed at the ground with its front hooves, and charged at the two of them again.
"Strange, the Mist Forest Giant Deer is by nature the most docile and never attacks people unprovoked, how could this be?"
Fiona was somewhat confused.
[Note: The Whisper of Forgetting is in effect]
The giant deer of the misty forest, which had been charging fiercely, froze instantly, staggered, lowered its head slightly, and let out a strange whimper.
"What are you standing there for? Run!"
