Chapter 60 Conflict in the Room
The three young wizards had never seen Professor McGonagall so angry.
Harry and Ron lowered their heads even further, and Hermione shrank back in fright.
But then she bravely stepped back: "Yes. Harry grabbed the troll's neck, and Ron took the opportunity to knock it unconscious with the troll's own club."
Professor McGonagall's jawline was taut, and her lips were pressed into a sharp, straight line.
When she rushed into the room, the first thing she saw was the giant lying on the floor.
Then, unlike the three young wizards who had no combat experience, she immediately noticed the black raven perched on the metal pipe above the room.
It was the one that had always been standing on Lynch's shoulder.
Headmaster Dumbledore had told her that it was not an ordinary raven, but a magical alchemical creation.
Jim Lynch can use this raven to communicate with people from a great distance, and even cast spells.
So just now in the underground corridor, when Jim Lynch released his raven to chase after the troll's trail, she did feel a sense of relief, though she didn't want to admit it.
As Lynch said, when it comes to combat skills, he is one of the most powerful wizards in the entire magical world. A giant monster might be difficult for an ordinary wizard to defeat, but it is certainly no problem for him.
So when she saw the scene inside the room, she subconsciously assumed that the three children had run into the troll and Lynch's crow had arrived in time to knock the troll unconscious.
That's why she was able to control herself even though she was angry.
But then Miss Granger told her that the troll was defeated by two students working together, and that Jim Lynch did not take any action during the process!
His crows flew very fast; they must have arrived before the children fought.
Professor McGonagall made a reasonable deduction in her mind.
He actually chose to stand by and watch!
Let these children fight against the enormous and dangerous monster!
Professor McGonagall's anger had reached its peak.
Suppressing her anger, she briefly punished and rewarded the three young wizards, then ordered them to return to the Gryffindor tower immediately.
As the footsteps of Harry, Meghan, and Harry faded into the distance, the room fell silent.
Only the heavy breathing of the unconscious troll and Professor Quirrell's gradually ceasing sobs could be heard in the room.
"Professor Snape, could you please take Professor Quirrell to the school infirmary? He doesn't look too well."
Professor McGonagall spoke to Snape in a deep, clear voice.
"Of course." Sensing the barely suppressed anger in Professor McGonagall's voice, Snape replied to her question with a concise answer.
Then he gave Lynch a fleeting, mocking smile, turned around, waved his wand, pulled Professor Quirrell, who was still slumped on the ground, up from the ground, and led him out of the room, limping and staggering.
With a "click," the door was closed from the outside by Snape, who was very considerate.
Professor McGonagall suddenly turned to look at Lynch.
She gripped her wand, the tip pointed at Lynch. Her taut face and the cold, piercing gaze emanating from her square glasses were filled with reproach and rage.
"I think I need an explanation, Mr. Lynch..."
"About what?" Ignoring Professor McGonagall's wand pointing at him, Lynch still wore his warm smile.
"Regarding why you stood idly by and allowed a few first-year students to face a dangerous magical creature of level XXXX!"
"Hmm..." Lin Qi pondered for a moment, "Because they charged up there themselves?"
Professor McGonagall's cheeks flushed an unnatural red. She took a half step back and suddenly raised her wand.
Knowing deep down that she was probably no match for Lynch, Professor McGonagall still resolutely took action.
The instant Professor McGonagall made her move, Lynch raised his hand slightly, and with a slight twitch of his fingertips, Professor McGonagall felt an invisible rope wrap around her right hand, which was holding the wand.
However, the rope's binding force was not strong; it merely hindered Professor McGonagall's movement of raising her hand.
Although she broke free of the restraints in the blink of an eye, her heart sank – she had lost the initiative.
Sure enough, in the instant she glanced at her right hand, Lin Qi disappeared from her sight.
Professor McGonagall held up her wand, adopting a wary stance, and scanned the entire room with her gaze.
But as far as the eye could see, in this room that had been almost completely destroyed by the giant, there was only himself and it; there was no other living thing to be seen.
"I'm very sorry." Lynch's voice suddenly rang out from all corners of the room, making it impossible for Professor McGonagall to pinpoint his location. "But it's a fact that they bravely attacked the trolls."
Lynch continued to explain to Professor McGonagall, "And that's why I let them fight the trolls—we are their teachers, not their babysitters."
Professor McGonagall, you are a very knowledgeable witch.
You should know that there are all sorts of dangers in the magical world.
These are dangers they will have to face sooner or later.
We cannot protect them forever...
A teacher's duty is to teach them how to deal with these unexpected dangers.
As long as they have the courage to face the dangers before them, then we should, while we can still protect them, let them learn more from the experience.
Just now, I only chose to observe their performance after I was certain that I had the ability to instantly control everyone or everything in the room.
And to be honest, they performed exceptionally well; they were resourceful, brave, and loyal to their companions, and through their teamwork, they defeated a dangerous creature that even ordinary adult wizards could not overcome.
What happened today will remain in their memories forever, making their friendship profound and lasting.
For the rest of their lives, they will clearly understand one thing: they have good friends they can entrust their lives to.
They are all good kids.
You should trust me, I won't let anything happen to them under my nose.
Everything is under control.
Professor McGonagall pursed her lips tightly, still warily looking around, and did not respond to Lynch's words.
Lin Qi did not continue speaking.
Just when this silent standoff seemed destined to continue for some time.
A heavy roar came from the center of the room.
The giant monster that had been knocked unconscious woke up. It grasped its pitifully small head with its huge hand and touched it, as if wondering what had hit its head.
Then it braced itself on the floor with one hand, trying to sit up or even stand up again.
But just as it was about to exert its strength, a huge and invisible force appeared out of nowhere and pressed down on it.
The giant only had time to let out a muffled groan before it was slammed back to the floor by the immense force.
The giant lay back down on the floor, its immense weight pressing down on it like a boulder weighing ten thousand pounds, leaving it only able to let out weak moans.
The floor beneath it gradually cracked under its massive body.
Lynch reappeared opposite Professor McGonagall, as if he had always been standing there and had never moved.
"Now, could you please stop pointing your wand at me?"
