Chapter 16 Sleeping Curse
Chapter 16 Sleeping Curse
The sour taste of inferior beer lingered in my mouth all night.
Lynn opened her eyes; the morning light was streaming onto the floor through the window cracks.
He sat up, rubbed his throbbing temples, and looked around. Kraft was nowhere to be found.
I chatted with Kraft until late last night, and I can't even remember how I got back to my room.
"It's so cold."
As soon as Lynn lifted the corner of the blanket, she shivered from the cold and quickly shrank back under the covers.
"I should have learned the magic that can warm the body from Frilian."
Lynn grabbed the blanket, took a deep breath, and suddenly threw off the blanket and jumped out of bed.
Then he casually grabbed the two swords that were placed beside his pillow, tucked them into his waistband, and pushed open the door.
The corridor was unusually quiet.
dong dong!
He went to the next room and knocked on Ellie's door.
no respond.
Given this girl's personality, she should have been yelling about wanting to go find breakfast by now, when the sun is high in the sky.
"Hey, Captain."
Lynn knocked on the door.
Still, no one answered.
"Ellie?"
Lynn increased the pressure on his hand.
It remained deathly silent.
An ominous premonition rose in my heart.
After spending a few days together, Lynn knew that this girl would never sleep so soundly. Usually, as long as she said "Dinner is ready," she would appear at the door.
"What's going on? Daydreaming in your room?"
Lynn listened through the crack in the door, but there wasn't even a snoring sound.
Not so good.
He quickly took half a step back and kicked the door lock.
boom!
Wood chips flew everywhere, and the door groaned as it fell inward, kicking up a cloud of dust.
The interior of the house was completely visible.
Ellie lay on the bed, half of the blanket kicked off, her whole body in a completely unguarded "X" shape.
She looks like she's sleeping soundly.
But it smells so good.
Her chest heaved so faintly it was almost invisible, her usually chattering little mouth was tightly shut, and her face was as pale as paper.
Lynn strode to the bedside and reached out to check her breathing.
Her breath was faint and weak.
"Don't waste your energy, you can't wake him up. I just walked around the inn and found that there wasn't a single person awake."
A deep, steady male voice came from behind me.
Lynn turned around and saw Kraft standing in the doorway, so she asked, "What do you think? Is it poisoning?"
Kraft entered the room, reached out his palm, pried open Allie's eyelids to look inside, and then grasped her wrist.
"The symptoms are the same as everyone else's."
Kraft released his grip and tucked the blanket around Allie. "It's a Sleeping Beauty spell."
After speaking, he stood up straight, looked around, and said, "And it's a large-scale, indiscriminate coverage."
"The entire hotel?"
"I'm afraid it's more than that."
Kraft walked to the window, opened it, and said, "Look outside."
Lynn leaned closer and was immediately stunned.
Several people were lying haphazardly on the street, including early-rising vendors and patrolling guards.
Even a stray dog by the roadside lay motionless in the snow.
The entire town of Neilless has completely lost its vitality.
"Was it done by demons or monsters?"
Lynn's hand rested on the hilt of his sword, his nerves taut.
He has always disliked things that are invisible and intangible, even though he is now unaffected by the curse-breaking constitution.
As for Kraft, being a monk, he was somewhat resistant to curses.
"I have heard of a monster called the Chaos Flower, which has the ability to put people to sleep, but it is rare to see one covering such a large area."
Kraft Road.
Lynn knew about the Chaos Flower, because Frilian and Zain had dealt with one before.
Is there a way to undo this?
Lynn asked.
As monks capable of using goddess magic, they should have some means of dealing with this curse.
"It's quite troublesome not knowing the source of the curse. Let's go investigate first."
The two left the room and went down to the first floor.
Good morning, both of you.
A charming female voice suddenly rang out in the hall.
Lynn paused, his right hand instantly gripping the hilt of his sword.
A woman slowly emerged from the shadows at the top of the stairs.
The woman wore a long purple silk dress and held a folding fan in her hand, half-covering her face, revealing only a pair of smiling eyes.
"Who is it?"
Lynn's gaze turned cold.
He could sense the other person's immense magical power, so if this person wasn't a powerful mage, then they could only be a demon.
When dealing with demons who have no feelings, the only solution is to cut them off completely.
"I am Serelle, a first-class mage from the Northern Branch of the Magic Association. I have been commissioned to come here to investigate Nightmare Vine."
The woman closed her folding fan, tapping it lightly in her palm. Her gaze swept over Lynn and Kraft as she asked, "And who are you two?"
"An adventurer passing by."
Lynn's fingers remained on the hilt of the sword.
"In any case, your constitution must be very special, otherwise it would be impossible for you to resist this level of sleeping curse."
Serelle said in an appreciative tone.
"What is this Nightmare Vine you mentioned earlier?" Lynn couldn't help but ask.
"Nightmare Vine is an ancient monster that can spread pollen that puts people into an eternal sleep."
Serelle pointed her folding fan toward the window on the west side of the town. "If we don't eradicate the root cause as soon as possible, these sleeping people will probably never wake up."
After speaking, his gaze swept over Lynn and Kraft once more, and he continued, "Although I am a first-level mage, this magical plant is surrounded by quite a few troublesome monsters. Since you two have the strength to resist the curse, I wonder if you could lend me a hand? As for the reward, the association will not treat you unfairly."
"no problem."
Lynn loosened his grip on the sword hilt, his face displaying just the right amount of respect. "It is our honor to assist a first-class mage."
Kraft nodded slightly.
"Thank you very much."
Serelle smiled sweetly, "Let's not delay, let's set off now."
The three pushed open the hotel door and stepped into the cold wind.
Serelle walked in front, with Lynn and Kraft following behind.
"Lord Serel."
Lynn quickened his pace to catch up with her, "May I ask when you became a Level One Mage?"
"This year."
"I heard that the exam for a first-level mage is very rigorous, especially this year, as Lady Celie is also presiding over the exam."
"yes."
Without turning her head, Celier said, "Lady Celie's majesty still terrifies me to this day. That exam eliminated quite a few geniuses."
"Speaking of which, one of my friends also participated."
Lynn made it up on the spot: "He said that the courtyard where Lady Celia lives is full of thorny roses, and that the fragrance of the flowers can cause hallucinations."
Serelle paused slightly, then chuckled, "Your partner is very observant; those roses are indeed dangerous."
Lynn narrowed his eyes slightly.
The courtyard where Celie lived was planted with all sorts of flowers, but there were no roses at all.
