Chapter 208 Hagrid's Lesson
"Hello everyone! I'm very happy to be your professor for the Magical Creatures Protection class!"
Looking at the carefree Hagrid in front of him, Roy shrank back and stood far away from him.
Even so, many young wizards still looked at her with great interest.
Hey Hagrid, don't do this! Didn't we agree to just listen to the lecture? Why did you call me to the front too?!
Loila, who thought she was just quietly observing, was surprised to find herself moved to the front by Hella just a few minutes into class.
"I am very grateful to Professor Hamilton for his willingness to help with today's lecture."
When did I say that?!
Loila lowered her head awkwardly, clutching the hem of her clothes, and remained silent. Although she had just given a lecture to her students, once it had nothing to do with the magic circle, Loila didn't know what to say.
Should I say hello? Or should I just stay silent?
After thinking for a while, Roy decided to raise his right hand slightly and wave awkwardly—which resulted in enthusiastic applause.
If this is how you gain everyone's approval, then what was the point of all that hard work practicing my opening remarks?!
Loira lowered her head in regret. She should have never agreed to Hagrid's request—and even if she had, she should have done so as a student!
"Alright everyone, let's turn our attention to today's real protagonist!" Hagrid's voice rang out, and his gruff voice certainly did a good job of drawing everyone's attention.
With his somewhat comical movements, Buckbeak walked slowly out of the woods with his head held high.
"oh!"
All the students gasped in surprise, and they collectively took a few steps back as they stared at the winged, hippogriff-like creature that was more than a person tall.
"Hagrid has gone mad!" Even Ron was startled, his lips twitching as he said, "This is far too dangerous!"
"No wonder Professor Hamilton is here," Hermione muttered to herself.
"Well, we really have to thank this winged beast—" Harry's mutterings made Hermione and Ron exchange a glance.
"Alright, don't be afraid, don't be afraid," Hagrid said soothingly, his voice incredibly gentle—but not to the students, but to Buckbeak.
"This is a hippogriff, but I prefer to call it Buckbeak." Hagrid's introduction made almost all the students shake their heads helplessly.
However, most Gryffindor students seem to have gotten used to it.
The Slytherin students seemed to have a different opinion, with Malfoy leading the way.
"He even gave that beast a name—as if that would make him an equal to us?" His voice wasn't quiet; Loila, who was closer to the students, heard it too.
She couldn't help but frown—although she also thought it was a bit strange that Hagrid named magical creatures—but Hagrid is my friend, okay?
He can name animals whatever he wants—I wouldn't mind what name he gives me—cough cough—anyway, do you have any opinions?
Wearing a mask, Loira gave Malfoy a disapproving look and began to consider whether she should make things difficult for him in her class—perhaps by making him the subject of a demonstration of the Cruciatus Curse or something.
Ah, it seems I'm no longer the Defense Against the Dark Arts professor—then I'll just have him wear the magic circle that blocks my killing curse—
It's safe, and it aligns with our classroom's main theme—hehehe—I really am a teaching genius!
"So, who wants to try making contact with Buckbeak?"
While Loila was lost in thought, Mr. Potter, who was also lost in thought, was pushed forward by the students. He looked around somewhat awkwardly, and finally took a deep breath after glancing at Loila.
"Don't be nervous, don't be nervous," Hagrid said with a smile. "Give a slight bow—and then slowly approach—"
He's practically a carbon copy of Newt now—Roy started to wonder if Hagrid and Newt would become good friends if they met.
Of course, while thinking this, Loila also gripped her wand tightly; she didn't want any student to get hurt.
However, Mr. Potter did a very good job. He almost perfectly fulfilled Hagrid's request. The unruly Buckbeak showed a docile expression and even nuzzled Harry with its head.
It seems to express affection in a way similar to a unicorn—Loila couldn't help but think of that unicorn—by the way, does it have a name? Should she follow Hagrid's example and give it a name too?
While Loyla was still in a daze, Hagrid had already boldly let Harry ride Buckbeak, and then they flew into the sky amidst the cheers of a group of students.
Tsk tsk ———— Is flying in the sky really that interesting?
Listening to the students' discussion, Loila began to think about whether she should research whether there was any magic circle that could make people fly—although she certainly wouldn't try it herself, but it should be okay to let the students try it out, right?
"Tch, what's so great about it?"
Oh—it sounds like Mr. Malfoy's voice. Loila heard him muttering again—he seems to have a bad relationship with Mr. Potter?
However, he seemed to be just muttering to himself, and Loila even found him somewhat cute.
He didn't even try to poison Mr. Potter's lunch, nor did he put a snake in his schoolbag, nor did he deliberately pour a basin of ice water on him in the dead of winter.
But he just insulted Hagrid—Loira still felt a little annoyed when she thought about it—
"call!"
Just then, a gust of wind came, and Mr. Potter slowly landed on Buckbeak. Amid cheers from the students, he flipped over and jumped off Buckbeak.
He even seemed to be enjoying it!
Watching the students' enthusiastic discussion, Loila couldn't help but wonder if her course was really too theoretical—she definitely needed to prioritize practical application.
"Hagrid, this is hilarious!"
"I'm also thinking of giving it a try—"
"Is it really not dangerous, Harry?"
Loila blinked as she looked at Hagrid surrounded by students.
Hagrid, you're clearly a genius at teaching!
Pretending to be bad at it is really awful!
Loira felt that perhaps she should learn from Hagrid how to conduct classes—rather than instructing Hagrid—
"What's so great about him?" Malfoy was furious to see Harry being fawned over. He strode past several students and headed toward Buckbeak.
"You silly bird, let me ride you too!"
He held his head high arrogantly, showing no regard for the humility Hagrid had just taught him. He strode up to Buckbeak, intending to do something rather aggressively.
His appearance clearly angered Buckbeak, and the hippogriff flapped its wings and let out a shriek.
"Malfoy!" Hagrid saw this and quickly pushed aside the students to try and stop Buckbeak, but the winged beast had already raised its front paws high.
The sharp claws came straight for Malfoy's head, startling the pure-blood wizard so much that he fell to the ground without even having time to draw his wand.
"Buzz!"
A flash of silver light appeared, and a figure emerged between the sharp claws and the fallen student.
Professor Hamilton stood there quietly, wand in hand, the descending claws frozen in mid-air, blocked by the slender wand.
"Alright—Buckbeak," she said softly, "calm down—"
