Chapter 16 Qingchuan
Chapter 16 Qingchuan
Qingchuan crossed his arms in front of his chest, looking rather uninterested.
"Old Lan, what are these guys doing here? Daring to barge into our house, they're asking for trouble!"
"Young Master, they might be targeting you."
"Me? I practically throw money around in the streets all the time. I haven't done anything illegal or domineering, so why are you coming after me?"
As he spoke, Qingchuan pointed to his nose. Seeing his butler's leisurely expression, he walked over to the three people who were struggling to sit up on the ground.
Under the watchful eyes of the three uninvited guests, Qingchuan crouched down, trying to keep himself at the same height as them when speaking.
This guy is actually quite polite...
Yun Luobai muttered to himself, recalling how Butler Lan had dealt with the three of them so effortlessly, and he remembered the man's identity.
Lanxiang, the steward of General Yunque's mansion, is quite skilled in martial arts.
He used to be a disciple of the Liangyi Sect. Back then, the Central Plains martial arts world suffered a great upheaval, and the Liangyi Sect was like a small boat adrift in the storm. Fortunately, in the end, good triumphed over evil, and the entire martial arts world returned to peace.
It was from that time that he left the Liangyi Sect and went down the mountain to live the life he wanted.
For Qingchuan, who lost his mother at a young age and whose father, a great general, was stationed at the border, Lanxiang was also the most important family member in his heart.
This steward, Lan, usually doted on and indulged his young master. Otherwise, Qingchuan would not have been able to get past him if he wanted to do something as absurd as holding a funeral for Muli in the General's Mansion. After all, the General was not around, and he, as the steward, was in charge of all matters in the General's Mansion. He also knew that the General had entrusted him with managing all matters, and most importantly, to protect Qingchuan as an elder.
Noticing Qingchuan's gaze on him and his companion, one of them gritted his teeth, his eyes filled with hatred as he looked at the former.
"You killed Mu Li! We must avenge Mu Li!"
"ha?"
Qingchuan was stunned for a moment upon hearing this, then turned to look at Yun Luobai and Ning Qi, who were standing in place. The two shook their heads in unison.
However, it's understandable that Qingchuan thought of them first; they came to the General's Mansion precisely because they suspected Qingchuan was involved in Mu Li's death.
They had barely arrived when someone came seeking revenge for Mu Li without even knowing the facts…
Hearing what the other party said, Ning Qi felt embarrassed.
He smiled awkwardly, but in his heart he was wondering how these three people knew that they suspected Qingchuan might be the murderer of Mu Li, since they came directly from the Rouge Pavilion...
Ning Qi walked straight up to the three of them, but instead of squatting down like Qing Chuan, he stood proudly and looked down at the three who had not yet stood up, his gaze even appearing somewhat cold.
"I am Ning Qi, a constable from the Ningzhou Prefecture. Who are you, and why are you so certain that the third brother is the murderer of Mu Li?"
"Officer Ning, we brothers are already familiar with your reputation. We admit we are outmatched, but don't forget, the martial world and the imperial court are separate entities. We are from the Earth Dragon Gang. If you want to invite us to sit in jail, it will only cause unnecessary trouble for the authorities."
Another person grinned and said in a nonchalant tone, showing no regard for Ning Qi, who was dressed as a constable and had a sword at his waist.
"All land under heaven belongs to the emperor. The so-called distinction between the imperial court and the martial world is nothing but wishful thinking on the part of you self-proclaimed martial arts scoundrels. Today I want to see what your Earth Dragon Gang can do even if I arrest the three of you who trespassed into the general's mansion and bring you back to the yamen."
Seeing Ning Qi's cold tone, as if he really intended to do as he said, the three of them visibly panicked. Clearly, their earlier arrogance was nothing more than a facade.
"Earth Dragon? Isn't that just an earthworm? Your gang's name is quite unique."
Yun Luobai spoke leisurely from behind. Hearing this, Lanxiang smiled and turned her gaze to the former.
Yun Luobai grew up in Ningzhou Prefecture and had a close personal relationship with Qingchuan, so Lanxiang naturally knew him.
Seeing Lanxiang looking at him, Yun Luobai smiled and nodded at her, as if to say hello.
When he first learned of Lanxiang's name, he also thought it should be a woman's name.
As for why these three members of the Earth Dragon Gang believed that Qingchuan was the real culprit in killing Mu Li, it's not hard to guess. They simply had someone overhearing them in the Rouge Pavilion earlier.
Upon hearing what Yun Luobai said, one of the three became extremely angry, and his voice became much sharper.
"Who are you, brat? How dare you insult my Earth Dragon Gang! You're asking for death!"
Ning Qi swiftly and cleanly kicked the man in the chest. Caught off guard, the man felt a tightness in his chest and a sweet taste rising in his throat, but not to the point of vomiting blood, so he swallowed it back.
"How dare you speak to my second brother like that?"
Ning Qi's protective behavior seemed somewhat out of place with his impartial and incorruptible style. Fortunately, it was in the vast general's mansion and not on a bustling street, otherwise it would have attracted attention.
"Big brother, forget it, don't get angry with them, it's not worth it."
Yun Luobai spoke up to stop him, and Ning Qi then ceased his actions.
Lanxiang saw what Ning Qi did, but remained silent.
Among the children at that time, Ning Qi was the oldest, and his maturity and composure were not only reflected in his bushy beard and square face.
Beneath this mature and composed exterior lies a ruthlessness that is not easily revealed to others.
Lanxiang saw the ruthlessness in Ningqi's heart. His youthful temperament was already so strong, and he would likely face many hardships in life because of this.
"Alright, you can leave now. I didn't kill Mu Li. You probably know who I am. If I really wanted to kill her, I could just tell someone else. I wouldn't even need to do it myself."
Qingchuan explained gently and kindly, and even reached out to help the three of them up one by one.
The three members of the Earth Dragon Gang had not expected the young master of the general's mansion to be so humble. They were at a loss for words and turned to run towards the courtyard wall. They then used their lightness skills to leap over the high wall and disappeared from sight.
Four people remained by the pond, the atmosphere quiet and subtle.
The midday sun was high in the sky; it was lunchtime.
"Young Master, I'll have the kitchen prepare a few exquisite dishes so you can catch up with your two brothers. What do you think?"
"No need, let's go out to eat."
"What about the funeral arrangements throughout the mansion, and the mourning hall?"
"They've withdrawn."
"it is good."
After a few brief words of conversation, Qingchuan decided where the three of them would go next.
He had never gotten along well with Yun Luobai, but it was only because of their ranking that he was a little annoyed. Yun Luobai was a good-tempered person and not an arrogant one. In the past, there had never been any friction between them that would affect their relationship.
Qingchuan nodded to Yun Luobai and Ning Qi, then strode out of the General's Mansion.
"Third brother, why don't you ask them how they knew you were the murderer of Mu Li?"
Ning Qi quickly followed Qing Chuan and asked, but Qing Chuan did not reply.
His eccentric behavior had no direct relation to his sharp and insightful mind.
