Chapter 23 Idiot, Crybaby, Residue, Twisted
Chapter 23 Idiot, Crybaby, Residue, Twisted
Neville looked at Kane with some confusion, not understanding why he was reacting so strongly. Hermione, however, suddenly realized what was happening and covered her face in annoyance.
"Why didn't I think of this sooner!" Hermione muttered through gritted teeth.
Kane looked at the toad in Neville's hand with disgust, but at least the toad was polite enough not to suddenly stick its tongue out and stick it on him.
"We came here to thank you. We would have been in big trouble without you." Hermione suddenly bowed to Kane like a spring, then stood up abruptly.
Neville was the same, but he was more honest: "I can give you anything I have if you need it. Maybe you'd like some of Ralph's slime?"
Okay, actually, it doesn't have to be that realistic.
However, Neville really did remind him, after all, frogs are...
"Would you mind if I touched him?" Kane asked.
"Of course not," Neville quickly replied.
"Thank you." Kane didn't use his hands, but instead let the shadow slowly crawl up the frog's body and merge into it.
Neville stared at Kane in shock at the horrific scene.
Dude, I just wanted you to touch this cute little guy, but it feels like you want to kill my Laifu.
Just as Neville stood there stunned, the frog corrupted by the shadows turned into a disgusting green, with some red pustules inside its belly, and its eyes suddenly glowed. It squatted in Neville's hand, slowly turned around, and then suddenly stuck out its tongue.
"what!"
"Wow!"
The first sound was from Neville; the frog's tongue strike, while not extremely painful, was certainly terrifying. The second sound was from Kane, because he saw the frog's tongue hit Neville, causing Neville to lose his gear.
"That's it, but that's enough." Kane was momentarily excited, then quickly pulled the shadow away from Raffle.
Lai Fu returned to normal, but Neville seemed very abnormal: "I...what did I do wrong? I apologize!"
Hermione then asked in surprise, "What happened to Lai Fu just now? Did you do that, Kane?"
"It's just a... guess. Anyway, thank you, Neville. Your blessing has answered my question." As soon as Kane finished speaking, Professor McGonagall on the stage called out his name.
"But I've been sorted. Anyway, don't be afraid of Neville. Your Raleigh is perfectly fine. Also, pick up what you dropped." Before leaving, Kane pointed to a brooch at Neville's feet that had been licked off by a frog.
"Gryffindor buddies."
Harry and Ron both patted Kane on the shoulder, and Kane naturally remained noncommittal. He mainly felt like he was in the same house as his friends. As for whether the cultural differences between the houses would affect his academic path?
Absolutely not. If someone else is a vehicle that needs to choose the right road, then he is a road roller!
Kane quickly sat down on the stool, and the moment the Sorting Hat was placed on his head, he exclaimed in surprise: "Hmm, a kind little wizard, not very ambitious, and his grasp of knowledge... so-so. You want to go to Hufflepuff?"
"Not really, I want to be with my friends. Just sort me into Gryffindor," Kane thought to himself.
"Gryffindor, a little wizard who's afraid of frogs and the dark... Well, you may be afraid of frogs and the dark, but you're not afraid of beating the sole heir of a pure-blood family half to death, so..."
"Gryffindor!"
As the Sorting Hat announced its final answer, Kane was relieved, as were Harry and Ron. Dumbledore smiled and raised his glass in greeting, and even Snape was glad that the boy hadn't been sorted into Slytherin.
The entire Great Hall was filled with a cheerful atmosphere. Aside from Professor McGonagall, Gryffindor already had enough troublemakers, but no one had ever pulled off such a stunt on the very first day of school...
Barring any unforeseen circumstances, it seems unlikely that Gryffindor will win the House Cup for the next seven years, even though she had never seen it before.
Kane sat down at the Gryffindor table, and the three Weasley brothers, whom he had met once before, came over.
"Congratulations, Kane, welcome to Gryffindor, the land of courage," said the tall, thin wizard named Percy with a serious expression.
"Well, although that hat was originally intended for me to go to Hufflepuff," Kane said with a shrug.
"Courageous yet kind, such fine qualities. You'll make many good friends at Hogwarts." Percy still wore that smiling poker face, which at first glance resembled that of a high-ranking official, or Maxwell, whom he had met at the beginning—a very... arrogant gaze.
Meanwhile, the Weasley twins finally got help from others to lift the silencing spell that Percy had cast on them. One of them pulled Percy behind him, while the other casually put his arm around Kane's shoulder and began to spout his Gryffindor philosophy.
In summary, prefects are irrelevant; they're just a privileged class used by professors to oppress junior wizards. They're completely useless, yet they wield their authority like a tyrant, causing Kane to disregard the prefect position.
"So, the question is, who is the prefect?"
George pointed his thumb at Percy, who was fighting with Fred: "That's the prefect."
Just as the two were talking, another round of thunderous applause erupted: "We have Potter!"
Harry Potter made a dazzling entrance, smiling like an eleven-year-old fool as he sat down in his Gryffindor seat. Now only Ron was left. Well, just a minute later, Ron was in the lead too.
The young wizards were then assigned to their respective houses one after another. It's worth mentioning that Hermione and Neville, who seemed rather timid, were also assigned to Gryffindor.
Dumbledore stood up at this moment, raised his wine glass, and first said some Hogwarts precautions as usual, such as not entering the rooms in the fourth-floor corridor, otherwise one might die.
"No entry to the forbidden forest, or you'll die," he finally uttered that somewhat insightful opening line: "Idiots, crybabies, scraps, twist them, everyone dig in!"
In an instant, everyone in the Great Hall started eating, with Harry and Ron excitedly stuffing all sorts of delicious food into their mouths.
Kane was the same, but he was thinking about two things. One of them was how to make his magic have the characteristics of a frog's tongue, so that when he fought other people's magic duels, he could hit the enemy once and the enemy would drop equipment, and he could hit the enemy once and the enemy would drop equipment. Wouldn't that be wonderful?
There's a second thing: what did those four words Dumbledore said mean?
"Aren't you curious too? About those four words Dumbledore said?" Hermione asked after sitting across from Kane for a long time, having prepared herself mentally.
After all, she had always thought that Kane was a Celestial Dragon from a prominent family, and he would definitely not treat people of Muggle origin like them with any kindness, so she had not approached him before.
However, after what happened in the foyer, he realized that Kane seemed...to be a pretty good guy. He decided to strike up a conversation!
Kane nodded and readily admitted, "I'm not just curious, I also plan to ask Dumbledore directly later."
After Kane finished speaking, he continued eating until the banquet ended. Each house prefect was responsible for escorting the young wizards of their respective houses to their dormitories, but Kane simply broke away from the group and headed towards the eighth-floor tower where the headmaster's office was located.
