Chapter 182 If you can't teach someone by teaching them, you can teach them by doing; you'
It was the weekend, and there weren't many employees working in the office area, making it exceptionally quiet. Zhou Yanruo led Shang Yibo to his office, giving brief introductions to each office as they passed through the open-plan workspace.
Shang Yibo looked somewhat disheveled today, his right arm bandaged and his left hand on a cane, making it difficult for him to move. He followed closely beside Zhou Yanruo. Although he was wearing a fisherman's hat, covering himself up completely, as they passed through the open-plan office area, employees kept glancing at him curiously while greeting Zhou Yanruo. The male employees were mostly unrecognizable; however, the female employees were different. Several even deliberately took a detour to come closer, just to confirm that the person in front of them was indeed him, before letting out a low, excited exclamation: "Shang Yibo?"
As they passed a conference room, a familiar voice called Shang Yibo's name from inside. He stopped and saw Jian Zheng emerge from the room. Jian Zheng seemed surprised to see Shang Yibo and asked with concern, "Are you here for a meeting too? I heard from Jiajia that you were injured, and it seems quite serious." His gaze fell on Shang Yibo's crutches, and he continued, "I was planning to visit you, but I had to go on a business trip today and couldn't find the time. I didn't expect to run into you here."
Shang Yibo smiled and waved his hand, saying casually, "It's just a sprained ankle, nothing serious."
Jian Zheng smiled and said, "Don't just stand there, how about you treat me to a cup of tea?"
Zhou Yanruo asked, "President Jian, don't you need to attend the meeting?"
Jian Zheng responded easily: "I have already reviewed the plans. Just let my subordinates handle them."
Shang Yibo looked at Zhou Yanruo and said, "Find us a place where we can have tea and chat."
Jian Zheng suggested, "Why don't we go to Shang Yibo's office? I can have a look around."
After a moment's hesitation, Zhou Yanruo decided to take the two of them to Shang Yibo's office.
Shang Yibo's office and Chairman Chu's office were located in the same area, diagonally opposite each other, separated by a spacious reception desk, behind which was the secretary's office. Directly opposite these two offices were a VIP reception room and a small, exquisite restaurant. Zhou Yanruo's office, on the other hand, was located in a slightly more distant executive office area.
Zhou Yanruo gently pushed open the somewhat heavy office door and stepped aside to let her in: "Please come in, both of you."
Shang Yibo entered first, passing the exquisite wooden screen wall at the entrance. The office opened up into a bright and airy space, with floor-to-ceiling windows filling the room with natural light. A large desk sat atop two curved steps in front of one wall; on the other side were several sets of European-style leather sofas, exuding both elegance and comfort. The office also included two adjacent suites: one a meeting room with a tea room, and the other a bedroom and bathroom, all rationally laid out and fully functional.
After looking around, Jian Zheng couldn't help but exclaim in exaggerated admiration, "Wow, this office is truly magnificent, with excellent lighting, and the height of the floor gives it a grand feeling of 'looking down on all the mountains'." However, he immediately changed the subject, "But speaking of which, Shang Yibo, you're so young, why do you like this somewhat subdued decorating style? The colors do feel a bit heavy, and it doesn't match your style."
"What's my style? Tell me."
“If it were the old one, well, you know.” Jian Zheng only said half a sentence, stealing a glance at Zhou Yanruo, and swallowed the rest of the sentence.
Shang Yibo didn't press the matter.
This was his first time in this office, and he was stunned by everything. He walked to the sofa and sat down. "My feet are really swollen and sore after standing for so long."
Zhou Yanruo said, "Please have a seat. It's the weekend, so my secretary isn't working. I'll arrange for the hotel to send you tea." After saying that, she left.
Jian Zheng followed Shang Yibo and plopped down on the sofa, crossing his legs. "I guess you don't come here often."
Shang Yibo gave an awkward "hehe" to cover up his embarrassment, "You guessed?"
"Not entirely, but we also observe."
"Oh? What did you observe?"
"The desk is completely empty, with neither stationery nor documents; it looks exceptionally tidy." He said, bouncing around on the sofa. "Even this sofa is the first time anyone has sat on it, right?"
Shang Yibo noticed that Zhou Yanruo had left, so he said casually, "Jian Zheng, you've learned to observe things now, that's a great improvement."
Jian Zheng deliberately sighed heavily, "You'll learn your lesson after suffering losses. You can't learn by being taught, but you can learn from experience."
Just then, the phone on the desk rang, interrupting their conversation. Shang Yibo was taken aback and muttered to himself, "Who would call here?" He then stood up to answer the phone.
"Hello, Mom? How could you..." Shang Yibo answered the phone, his tone tinged with surprise.
Fang Xichen's gentle voice came from the other end of the phone: "Yibo, your phone was off, I couldn't reach you. Then I heard you came to the company, that's good."
“Last night, so many people called to ask how I was doing, it disturbed my rest, so I turned off my phone to get some peace and quiet.” Shang Yibo interrupted Fang Xichen, then asked, “Mom, what did you want to see me about?”
"Don't turn off your phone anymore. Your family will be very worried if they can't reach you."
"Can't they still find me?" Shang Yibo muttered softly. "I mean, if something really happens, they'll always find a way to contact me."
"Hmm." Fang Xichen remained noncommittal, not wanting to dwell on the topic. He then said, "I heard your trip to Huizhou has been postponed by a week. In that case, you should go home. It'll be easier to take care of you there, and your injury will heal faster. Also, your father is going on a business trip to Bangkok tonight and might be gone for a while. He just heard you went back to the company. Although he didn't say anything, I could tell he was very happy."
Hearing his father's reaction, Shang Yibo was also very happy. "My injury is nothing serious and should recover quickly. I don't have any other plans these days, so I can work with Zhou Yanruo at the group and take this opportunity to familiarize myself with the group's business. Going home would be too far from the city center, which would be inconvenient."
"That's wonderful!" Fang Xichen's voice was full of joy on the other end of the phone. It was obvious that she was very pleased. "I'll go tell your dad right away. He'll be very happy."
Jian Zheng sat on the sofa, listening to Shang Yibo on the phone. He turned his face away, tilted his head slightly, and gazed through the window at the gradually spreading twilight outside, lost in thought.
Hearing the phone hang up, I turned around and saw that Shang Yibo still had a smile on his lips. He slowly looked away, seemingly casually tugging at the corner of his mouth.
