35 – First Master
35 – First Master
The new environment did wonders to give me ideas and motivate me to develop Runestone.
As for the card development, that was normal, since all the ideas for the cards were already ready and I just had to use my mana on it.
The difference is that since yesterday I've had an upgrade in card development.
As I've managed to increase my maximum Mana by 2 MP every day since the end of the test, my Mana has now reached a total of 80 MP!
So instead of just making 5 cards every day as I had been doing previously, my current Mana would allow me to make 6 cards in a day and still have 2 MP left over to apply to something else.
With 6 cards being made every day and my Mana still increasing by a maximum of 2 MP every day, instead of finishing producing all the cards on Saturday of next week, I could finish it on Friday, or even next Thursday, leaving 2 days to spare for developing other things.
Of course, I didn't intend to rely solely on those 2 days to develop the other features that I would be launching in the game in addition to the Battle Pass.
I would stop practicing my magic for a few days to use that extra Mana to develop other features.
One of the days I decided to give up practicing my magic was today.
Since I used the internet to re
“Sure, no problem.” I replied excitedly.
' I thought excitedly.
The installation of this equipment was very quick and efficient, I still had to leave the fridge off for a few hours because of the movement of the engine gas, but the computer was already fully functional.
Fortunately, the level of this computer was the same as that of my college computer, which I was already used to.
Taking advantage of the fact that it wasn't time for me to sleep yet, I decided to go to the market.
The receptionist said that there was a market a five-minute walk away along the beachfront, so I just put on my headphones and listened to music while I walked and enjoyed the view.
...' I thought as I compared the route I was taking to the market to the route I used to take when I was at college.
Things in this market were more expensive than in the market near the college, but that's understandable, one of the disadvantages of living in a more expensive neighborhood is that the cost of living is also higher.
But with my money I had enough to buy enough groceries to get by for a few weeks and make a present for Victoria who helped me with my first meal.
The next day, waking up in a new house left me momentarily lost, but when I began to recognize the place I was in, a smile appeared on my face.
It wouldn't make any sense to say something like that.
I thought as I shrugged.
After eating my breakfast, instead of going to develop new cards for Runestone, I had an idea of something I could do to amuse myself and get the Players excited for the next season I was going to release.
Opening the game streams website, I looked at the list of streams and wasn't surprised to see that Owen was currently the biggest Runestone streamer, already online and with 800 viewers watching him.
Among those viewers, from what I saw in the chat, most were normal people, and among the Players, most were people who also played Runestone.
Taking advantage of the fact that there were so many people online, I logged into Game Core as a Player and used my Game Creator commands to do something interesting.
- Owen POV -
Since last Saturday's event, Runestone's popularity had been growing more and more, and I was noticing that there were Players catching up with me in the game's Rankings.
If they were just normal, very good Players catching up with me, I wouldn't have felt too strongly about it, but seeing the level of these Players I realized that they weren't catching up with me in Rank because of their skill, but because they were playing a lot more than me!
While I was only playing 7 or 8 hours a day, adding up the time I spent meditating to recover MP, there were Players who were playing 12, 15 or even 17 hours a day.
And how did I discover this? Because recently while I was playing, one of the Players I had to face in the Diamond Rank was my older brother Nathan!
When he explained to me that he wasn't the only E Rank Player taking advantage of their extra Mana to play Runestone for much longer, I couldn't believe it.
'How unfair... they have their E Rank games to play and they're coming to our F Rank games to rank up and take the Diamond or Master spots for themselves!' I was frustrated to discover this, but there was nothing I could do.
It's not like the Game Creator was going to stop these Players from playing with them by contributing so much Mana to him every day.
Fortunately Nathan was no longer playing as long as he did last week, since this week he and his group were back to raiding dungeons, but there were still some Diamond Rank E Players.
I was currently in Diamond Rank 1, just one win short of moving up to Master Rank.
My opponent was also at Diamond Rank 1, and is one of the Players I believe to be E Rank Players outside the game.
Even if these Players weren't as good as me, because they played a lot more than me they also improved considerably, and in a game where luck also influenced the outcome, even if I was a better Player, I still often lost games.
Sure, my win rate was very high, otherwise I wouldn't be Top 1 in the game, but I also lost games if I wasn't careful.
And this was one of the games where the duel was very close.
My hero was Grand Mage Lyna Proudstone, while my opponent was using Chief Warrior Shogar.
During the game I managed to damage him and destroy several of his creatures using my spells and traps, but the price I paid was that my HP was now extremely low.
'If I stay on the defensive, I'll probably lose next turn...' I thought as I watched my opponent play his turn.
'Please deck, if you listen to me, give me a good card to deal with this situation...' I practically prayed for luck.
My opponent quickly ended his turn, summoning a powerful Lava Giant with 8 attack and 10 life before ending his turn.
If I couldn't deal with this giant, I'd really lose in the next round...
Picking up a card at the start of my turn, as soon as I saw the card I had received a huge smile appeared on my face.
The legendary card given as a reward for last Saturday's event!
A spell card that costs 8 mana to play, but has the effect of randomly 'finding' the guardian among any of the cards on the board.
If the chosen card is mine, my card will receive the 'provoke' effect and 2 more HP points to protect me, but the real legendary effect of this card is that if the chosen guardian is a card of my opponent, that card becomes mine and comes to my side of the board.
'Please choose that card...' I practically prayed again as I stared at the Relic flying over the board until a light finally fell on the Lava Giant!
“Yes!” I shouted excitedly.
At the same time, my opponent sighed when he saw where this was heading and didn't even wait for his giant to move to my side of the board, pressing 'surrender' and giving up the game completely.
With this victory I finally left Diamond and became a Master Rank Player!
This message didn't just appear for me, but for all Runestone Players at that moment.
Not just the Online Players, but even a post on FrostHaven's Whisper with an image of a leaderboard.
Looking at this table that the game unlocked, I saw that there were 199 empty spaces and only one filled one, the first place, with my name written there!
' I thought excitedly, feeling an honor and glory that I'd never felt with anything else before.
Even when I studied for exams at school and got the best grade in the class, I didn't feel as great an honor as I was feeling now... after all, I wasn't competing with just 50 people in my class, but more than 5,000 people who play the game every day!
As I rose in rank, the border of my profile also changed from the beautiful bright blue that was Diamond, to a mystical and noble purple that represented a Master.
Looking at the stream chat, the viewers were celebrating more than me, emotes being sent non-stop by them, causing a big smile to appear on my face.
After celebrating for a few minutes, I decided to play another game to see how far I could get and see if it would be possible to rank up again after the Master Rank.
I was expecting the game to take at least three minutes to find an opponent for me, the average time I had expected before, but this time my opponent was found instantly!
To my surprise, my opponent's profile had no Rank border, as if he had never played a Ranked game in his life.
'What's going on, did I make a bug happen in the system?' I asked myself shocked.
The opposing player's name was just two letters, [FH], which confused me even more.
But when the game started and I saw what my opponent looked like, I was shocked.
I knew him!
