Ty watched as the spider crawled around before eventually burrowing into the ground. Both Gisorn and Kern were loaded onto stretchers, the mechanical arms of the drone ship lifting them with precision. The vehicle hovered just above the ground, then with a quiet hum, it began to rise.
A moment later, it vanished into thin air, disappearing after ascending no more than ten feet.
"Wh- how did it just vanish like that?" Ty asked, his breath coming in labored gasps.
John, still catching his own breath, nodded toward the sky. "Teleportation technology, most likely. It's best we move now," he added, clapping his hands together. A shimmering portal formed in front of him, swirling with faint light. "I've created a few waypoint portals. We should get away from here before backup arrives."
"Backup?" Ty raised an eyebrow, eyes narrowing.
John wiped his brow, sweat glistening in the low light. "Yes. In a few seconds, they'll start announcing the deaths. Once they realize that Gisorn and Kern are gone, they'll know our team is weakened. With only Rosana, myself, and you left, they'll come for us. It's best we lay low for a few hours, rest, tend to our wounds."
Ty glanced at him, still processing the situation, his exhaustion weighing on his shoulders. John continued, a hint of guilt in his voice. "I apologize for being more useless back there. If it weren't for you... and Gisorn's last attempt, we'd all be dead. My wish would've died with me.
So, thank you... demon."
Ty smirked, his face softening slightly. "You can just call me Ty, ya know."
As the words left his mouth, Ty turned toward Rosana. She was on both knees, her face wet with tears, her shoulders trembling with each ragged breath. He walked over and knelt beside her, resting a hand gently on her shoulder.
"It's... going to be fine, Rosana. I know—"
