Chapter 608 The News

Ty nodded, a faint smile on his face. "I appreciate that, JJ. And honestly, I have to say I appreciate all your help and everything you've done for me since I came here. I can't imagine getting through all of this without you—even with everything that's happened, the good and the bad."

JJ lowered her gaze, her expression softening. "Of course," she murmured. "For a moment, you helped bring some retribution for my family. You've always been so kind since I first met you. In a way, you've kept me grounded through all this madness."

Ty reached out, giving her hand a light squeeze. "I try," he said, his voice gentle. "I know how much you've gone through, and I just... I want to be there for you too." Read latest chapters on My Virtual Library Empire

JJ gave him a small smile, her eyes glistening slightly before she quickly blinked it away. They sat in silence for a brief moment, the quiet between them filled with unspoken gratitude and understanding. Just as Ty opened his mouth to say more, the door swung open, the sudden movement startling them both.

Yun-Jin stepped inside, her silver armor glinting under the dim light, her pink hair cascading over her shoulders. She gave them a polite bow, her eyes flicking between Ty and JJ. "Sorry to interrupt your meeting with your sponsor, Ty Hockenson," she said, her voice formal. "But I must take you away for preparation for your meeting."

Ty blinked, surprised at the sight of her. "Yun... I'm glad to see you're doing well too. But why are you the one taking me? Shouldn't that be Lieutenant Daemon's job?"

Yun-Jin's expression shifted, her gaze lowering. JJ's face mirrored hers, her eyes dropping to the floor as a heavy silence settled in the room. Yun-Jin swallowed, her voice quiet but steady as she spoke. "Lieutenant Daemon... he was killed in combat against the old general and the Black Bulls."

Ty felt his chest tighten, his breath catching as her words sank in. He clenched his jaw, his fingers tightening around the sheets of his bed. He remembered his last conversation with Lieutenant Daemon—the talk about red flags, staying safe. The weight of those memories pressed down on him, but he forced himself to breathe, to focus.@@@@

Ty smiled, then turned to Yun-Jin, who was waiting patiently by the door. She gave him a nod, her face composed. Together, they walked out of the room, the door clicking shut behind them. The hallway was quiet, their footsteps echoing softly against the walls.

They walked in silence for a moment before Yun-Jin spoke, her voice breaking slightly. "I... I can't do this anywhere else," she said, her shoulders trembling. Ty glanced over, startled to see tears welling in her eyes. "I can't keep pretending that everything is okay. Not after what happened. The old general... he betrayed us all."

Ty's brow furrowed, his mind flashing back to an early encounter. He remembered talking to the old general briefly during one of the early power displays, when contestants were showing off their abilities. There had been something off about the man, but Ty hadn't paid it much attention at the time. Now, seeing Yun-Jin's pain, he wished he had.

Yun-Jin stopped walking, her composure crumbling as she covered her face with her hands. Her sobs were quiet, her shoulders shaking. Ty hesitated for a moment before stepping closer, wrapping an arm around her. She leaned into him, her armor cold against his chest, her tears soaking into his shirt.

"It's okay," he whispered, his voice soft. "You're not alone in this. We'll get through it."

She looked up at him, her eyes red, her face streaked with tears. "I just... I don't know how to keep going sometimes," she admitted, her voice barely above a whisper.

Ty nodded, his heart aching for her. "One step at a time," he said. "That's all we can do. Just keep moving forward."

Yun-Jin sniffled, wiping her eyes with the back of her hand. She gave him a shaky smile, then pulled him into a hug. Ty closed his eyes, holding her for a moment, letting her draw whatever comfort she needed from the embrace.

After a few moments, she pulled away, taking a deep breath. "Thank you," she said, her voice steadier now. She straightened her armor, her gaze growing determined once more. "Let's go. We need to get to the waiting room for the interviews."
